A division of Great Rail Journeys, UK's leading operator of holidays by rail
The Spirit of Chartwell boasts the sumptuousness of a
classic luxury yacht. Designed to evoke the timeless grandeur of
the 1929 Côte d'Azur Pullman railway carriage, the deluxe river
vessel has been built to the very highest standard.
1929 'Riviera' Côte d'Azur Armchairs
Only 612 of these famous dining armchairs were actually ever made,
with only a small number still surviving to this day. 33 of them
can be found on board the Spirit of Chartwell, beautifully
restored and re-upholstered.
Large panoramic windows provide unspoilt views of London, while
rich hardwood finishing, glittering table settings and the finest
attention to detail create a fabulous environment on board.
Impeccable service, fine dining and a relaxed but elegant
atmosphere create a unique sense of occasion for this unforgettable
journey in the heart of our capital city.
This luxurious river ship's facilities include an elegant lounge,
a relaxing bar and spacious open air viewing areas - perfect for
taking in the sights and sounds of the River Thames at a leisurely
pace. On board there is also an internet centre and complimentary
hot beverage station.
Dining in the George Bradshaw Restaurant
Dining on board is an experience in itself and a real highlight of
your time on board the Spirit of Chartwell. We dine in the
stunning George Bradshaw Restaurant (named after the man who gave
us the first railway timetable), where meals are accompanied by
uninterrupted views through panoramic windows.
Superb meals are freshly-prepared by the on board chefs who make
use of local produce throughout the voyage. A full English
breakfast is served each morning, buffet-style or from the galley,
with eggs individually prepared to your particular choice.
Lunch is usually served in the George Bradshaw restaurant,
although when the weather is particularly kind, you will have the
chance to dine on the London Observation Deck above. Lunch is three
courses, with a choice of main dishes and a vegetarian
option.
Each day concludes with a four or five-course Gala Dinner served
in the George Bradshaw Restaurant and is often accompanied by music
from the adjoining Somerset Maugham Piano Bar. Your seat for dinner
is at the Commodore Table, located in the centre of the George
Bradshaw restaurant, with six guests per table. You have the
option to upgrade your seat to a Category B seat at a Riviera table
for four, or to a Category C seat at a Riviera table for two.
Riviera tables are located beside the panoramic windows for
enhanced views as you dine.
Your State Cabin
Every cabin on board the Spirit of Chartwell
provides the perfect haven of calm and tranquility, beautifully
presented with rich cream and mahogany finishes. Designed to the
last detail, your cabin comes complete with classic fabrics and
fully restored antique details such as original Navy ships' badges
and reading lamps taken from the SS France and Olympia.
Cabins have individually controlled air conditioning and heating
systems, and all have outside facing windows. Cabins come with twin
Hypnos beds (double beds on the Upper Deck), and every cabin enjoys
en suite bathroom facilities with walk-in showers, television,
music system, hairdryer, trouser press and safe.
