Getting to Zermatt

Flight from London to Zurich

Your journey begins with your flight from the UK to Zurich. On arrival you'll take the train from Zurich airport to the village of Visp. The train journey takes you up into the mountains, where the Matterhorn reveals itself as you arrive in car-free Zermatt.

Regional flights available

Rail London - Zermatt (2 days)

Alternatively, take a leisurely two-day journey by train. From London St Pancras, take the Eurostar to Paris Nord and enjoy a smooth and carefree journey. In Paris travel from Gare de Lyon to Basel. You'll spend the night in charming Basel and then travel onto Visp the next day. Finally, from Visp you'll take the train to Zermatt.

Days 1 & 2 - Zermatt

On arrival in Zermatt you'll be transferred to your hotel for the night. Choose between a 4* or 5* hotel on a B&B basis.

Enjoy a free day in the charming village of Zermatt today. Set amid the mountains, and with views of the iconic Matterhorn, this car-free village is like a small town, with lots of restaurants, bars, and shops to explore. When you've explored the village, take one of the many hiking trails nearby, or choose one of our optional excursions below which are bookable at a supplement.

Day 3 - Glacier Express

Glacier Express

Your panoramic journey aboard the Glacier Express today, begins with a steady descent into the upper Rhone Valley, where you'll travel through meadows and river gorges. The train climbs back into the snow-capped mountains reaching the journey's highest point, before descending along the beautiful Rhine Valley. Aboard 'The Slowest Express Train in the World', you'll pass Chur, travel into the mountains, cross viaducts, burrow through tunnels and rise above the clouds on your way to St Moritz. You have the option to choose lunch aboard the Glacier Express, with two or three courses.

Once in St Moritz there's time to discover a little of this luxury resort town. Located in the heart of the Engadine, the town is known for glamour and its famous visitors. But the town's location means it's also a great place for getting close to nature as the nearby lakes and scenic walking trails are beautiful places to explore. You'll then transfer to your hotel for the night. Choose between 4* and 5* hotels on a B&B basis.

Please note: There will be no Glacier Express trains running between 13th October to 7th December.

Day 4 – St Moritz

St Moritz

Relax on your free day in St Moritz and explore this glamourous resort town. The shopping in this glitzy town is an experience, and if the prices seem a little too high, even window shopping is a fun activity. Take a boat out on the lake and marvel at the scenery, or choose one of our excursions which are bookable at a supplement.

Bernina Express

Day 5 – Bernina Express to Italy

Bernina Express

Today you'll take the historic Bernina Express, all the way to Tirano in Italy and then travel on to romantic Venice. This 100 year old route has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status, and takes you on a captivating journey through tunnels and over bridges, including the landmark Landwasser Viaduct. You'll travel on through the rugged landscape of the Engadine Valley, and through the Albula Tunnel and over the Bernina Pass. You'll reach colourful Poschiavo, the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland, before crossing into Italy. The journey continues descending into Northern Italy to Milan, changing for the onward journey to Venice.

When you arrive in Venice, you'll be transferred to your hotel for the night. Choose between 4* and 5* hotels on a B&B basis.

Day 6 - Venice

Venice

Enjoy some free time in Venice to fully explore the city and get to know the streets. There's plenty to do in Venice, from art galleries to gondola rides, but it's also an atmospheric city that's fascinating to take your time in. Sit at an historic café and watch the people go by and gaze at the city's gothic architecture. Eat and drink your way around the city and indulge in some of Italy's famous dishes. Alternatively, take one of our optional excursions which are bookable at a supplement.

Free Day in Venice

Day 7 – Venice

Free Day in Venice

You'll enjoy your second free day in Venice today. Dig a little deeper into the history of the city and discover some of the famous people who've called Venice home and who've visited its old cafes and bars. Or take a day to fully relax, take a stroll around the streets or get out on the water. Alternatively, choose one of our optional excursions which are bookable at a supplement.

Flight from Venice to London

As your epic journey comes to a close today, you'lltransfer, by water taxi to the airport in Venice, where you'll take your flight back to the UK. 

Rail Venice to London (2 Days)

Alternatively, take a two-day train journey back to the UK. Travel from Venice to Bologna and from Bologna to Milan. Then from Milan to Montreux where you'll spend the night. The next day you'll travel by train from Montreux to Lausanne and from Lausanne to Paris Gare de Lyon. Finally, take the Eurostar from Paris back to London St Pancras.
