Discover Scotland with a highland adventure aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman. Explore Edinburgh and take in some of the cities sights and attractions, then board the Royal Scotsman for a enchanting trip through the the Highlands visiting the Strathisla Distillery.
Your Highland adventure begins with your arrival into the Scottish capital today, for a two night stay at the 5-star Howard Hotel. While in Edinburgh, why not take the time to discover some the city's sites and attractions? The Scottish National Portrait Gallery is well worth a visit and here you can explore the lives and achievements of many Scots, past and present. This evening experience your first taste of Caledonia, and discover one of the many bars or restaurants this vibrant city is famed for.
Make the most of a leisurely morning to do some more sightseeing today, perhaps take a stroll down Princes Street, the city's main shopping area. This road is also home to the Scott Monument, built in 1840 as a tribute to Sir Walter Scott, one of the most important figures in Scottish literature. Inside you will find 287 steps leading up to some of the best views in Lothian. This afternoon, make your way to Edinburgh station and join the iconic Belmond Royal Scotsman train, your home for the next two nights. Once on board you will be immersed into a world of style, elegance and above all comfort. It won't take long to adapt to the luxury of your surroundings, and from now until the end of your trip, all drinks, meals and excursions are fully inclusive. As the Scotsman begins its journey through Perthshire on the Highland Line, afternoon tea is served. The scenery slowly starts to change from rolling hills to the more dramatic peaks and troughs the further north you go. Enjoy the spectacular backdrop of the Cairngorms National park from the well-appointed observation carriage. This evening the train stables for the night in the Village of Boat of Garten, and here you enjoy an informal dinner and on board entertainment followed by a peaceful night spent in your large, Edwardian themed cabin.
Today you will travel to Rothiemurchus Estate, where you have a wide variety of activities to choose from such as claypigeon shooting, fishing or a tour of the estate. This is followed by refreshments which are served in the hunting lodge. This afternoon the train continues to Inverness for an excursion to the infamous battlefield at Culloden, before an evening visit to Strathisla Distillery. Tonight there is a formal dinner aboard, so don your finery for a traditional experience of Scottish hospitality.
As the train rides southwards, crossing the distinctive Forth Bridge, sit down to a full Scottish breakfast and take in the scenery one last time, before arriving back into Edinburgh Waverley station.
