Depart St Pancras International by Eurostar for Brussels. Arriving in the Belgian capital, change high speed trains and continue your journey to Cologne for a two-night stay. Cologne's Cathedral - or "Dom"- located just outside the main station, is a wonderful sight, at any time of year. One of Europe's most premier examples of its kind, the mighty spires looming up high prove this to be a truly awe-inspiring landmark.
From Cologne you'll connect to Germany's renowned high speed inter-city railway which will whisk you onto Berlin for a two-night stay. After checking into your hotel, spend the rest of the day and evening getting to know Berlin. With an excellent transport system, the city is incredibly easy to explore. Discover how Berlin's history has shaped the character of the city today with a visit to the city's most iconic landmarks, museums and palaces. Highlights include the Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie, the Jewish Museum, the Gemäldegalerie art museum and the world-renowned Pergamon Museum.
Berlin has a more modern side too, and if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for an hour or two, take a stroll through Tiergarten - Berlin's largest park. Or, if you fancy a spot of retail therapy, head to the Kurfürstendamm - one of the city's most famous avenues. Alternatively, simply wander through the streets and admire the impressive Imperial architecture or soak up the atmosphere in one of Berlin's wide selection of lively bars and restaurants.
Today you'll head onward by rail to Nuremberg - the Old Town of Nuremberg dates back to medieval times, and within its city walls there are several Gothic Churches, including the Frauenkirche. You can discover more about this city and its historic centre over the next couple of days during your two-night stay, perhaps visit the Kaiserburg Fortress, which is the centrepiece of Nuremberg's beautiful medieval architecture and encircled within the city walls of the Old Town.
Today it is off to Munich on the train for a two-night stay. Begin your time in Munich with a stroll to Marienplatz, Munich's charming main square. Here you'll find the Neo-Gothic New Town Hall and the famous Glockenspiel. Also why not take in the Palace of Nymphenburg and the impressive Olympic Park?
You'll head via Mannheim, in the Black Forest region, to Freiburg today for another two-night stay. Lying in a secluded, vineyard-covered corner of the German state of Baden Württemberg, Freiburg is a laid-back, university city. Known throughout Germany for its good weather and vineyards, Freiburg is considered by Germans to be a desirable place to live. Due to its location in the "Dreiländereck" (Three-country corner), residents of Freiburg will travel to France and Switzerland to holiday and stock up on local specialties. The Münster, Freiburg's Gothic cathedral, is one of the oldest and most beautiful in all of Europe, and visitors can climb to the top of the tower for the fabulous views across the city. The whole of Freiburg is interlaced with 'bächle', small canals that run through the streets. These canals were once used as a way to fight fires in medieval Freiburg, and legend has it that if you accidentally fall or step into one, you will marry a Freiburger.
Bidding farewell to Germany, you transfer to Karlsruhe where you'll join the high speed train to Paris. Cross the city to join the Eurostar service back to London. Upon arrival, your holiday concludes.
