Train holidays in France and Belgium with GRJ independent. Explore Northern France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
France is a destination that needs little introduction. Its capital, Paris, is regarded as the most romantic city in the world and beyond, it also boasts the natural beauty of a sun-kissed Riviera. Whether visiting the battlefields and memorials to the Great War or admiring the architecture of medieval Bruges, a rail tour of Belgium promises a memorable trip.
France also possesses one of the most modern and efficient rail networks in Europe, and a rail holiday is one of the easiest and most comfortable ways in which to explore and enjoy a host of France's greatest attractions - it takes less than 2 hours 15 minutes to get to the Gare du Nord and Brussels is even closer, taking a paltry 1 hour 51 minutes.
Despite its compact size, Belgium's rail network not only provides high-speed links to neighbouring countries but also offers efficient InterCity and InterRegio services. These allow visitors to explore Belgium's highlights by train, whilst travelling in comfort. And while France is a satisfying destination in it's own right, it may also prove to be a tempting 'springboard' to further travel across the continent.
One of Belgium's most beloved cities is Bruges, also known as the 'Venice of the North'. A historic destination whose fortunes were certainly up and down over the past few centuries, there's plenty to explore in its compact centre, and cruises along the city's sophisticated canal offer the best vantage point of the pretty bridges, which loop over the banks of the waterway throughout the city.
There are so many famous landmarks of the Paris skyline that you're unlikely to take them all in, but the vast majority line the River Seine, or are a stone's throw away. Avignon benefits from a seasonal direct Eurostar service from St Pancras which makes it too tempting miss. Then there's Brussels, a city filled with resplendent architecture, compelling modern history as well as plenty of cafés and shops to satisfy even the sweetest of teeth.
Located close to Monaco and the Italian border on the beautiful Côte d'Azur, Nice is the fifth largest city in France and is believed to be one of the oldest human sett lements in Europe. The city's principal avenue is the Promenade des Anglais, a palm-tree-lined Mediterranean version of the Champs-Élysées, which separates the glamorous shops and hotels from the beach.
The Itineraries shown are intended to give an overview of what is possible and are by no means the only options available, designed to offer an idea of all the places you could visit and give you an overview of each destination. We arrange holidays to suit all tastes and budgets, so you can pick and choose from below or come up with something completely unique.
