b'MEDEMBLIK STEAM RAILWAY SPRINGTIME TULIPS, FLORIADE AND KEUKENHOF GARDENS YOUR ITINERARYDay 1 - London and AmsterdamWe meet at London St Pancras and take the Eurostar to Amsterdam, transferring on arrival to our Amadeus ship. Take time to settle into your cabin and relax in your new surroundings before enjoying a welcome drink in the lounge, followed by dinner in the panoramic restaurant.Day 2 - Amsterdam, the Medemblik Steam Railway or FloriadeYou have a choice between three excursions today; you could attend Floriade, take a sightseeing tour of Amsterdam, or visit Hoorn and journey on the Medemblik Steam Railway. Floriade only happens once every ten years, and this decades theme is Growing Green Cities. TYNE COT CEMETERY There are exhibitions from over 30 different countries, each split into four sub-themes exploring the possible future development of our city centres. Alternatively, visit Amsterdam, a city famous for its tree-lined canals, crooked buildings and laid-back atmosphere. Among the sights we discover is vibrant Dam Square, the citys bustling main square, dominated by the Royal Palace - a classical 17th-century masterpiece. Finally, you could visit Hoorn, one of the oldest cities in The Netherlands and an attractive harbour-town. From here, step back in time with a journey on the Medemblik Steam Railway. On our Apr 8 sailing, the Floriade excursion will take place on Day 7. Your choice on Day 2 will be between the Keukenhof Gardens, an Amsterdam city tour and a journey on the Medemblik Steam Railway.Day 3 - The Battlefields of YpresOur ship arrives in Ghent, in Flemish Belgium, and were joined onboard by Colonel Piers Storie-Push, a battlefield expert with a military GHENT background, who talks to us about the history of the area and the battles fought across this part of Europe. Afterwards, we explore some of Ypres most moving battlefield sites, accompanied by local experts who take us through some of the most poignant destinations, including Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth war memorial in the world. We return to the ship for dinner.Days 4-5 - Ghent and BrugesDiscover the attractive city of Ghent this morning, as we venture into the narrow streets and pretty boulevards for a guided tour. There are over 900 listed buildings here, as well as some remarkable medieval architecture thats managed to withstand two World Wars. We learn about some of the citys architecture, taking in the ever-impressive St Bavos Cathedral and Belfry, a striking tower which soars above the citys skyline. After lunch, your time is free to explore more of Ghent. At dinner, we enjoy one of the real tastes of Belgium with a desert of waffles and chocolate. We visit fairytale Bruges on Day 5, a picture-YPRES perfect medieval city which takes great pride in its history. Bruges is filled with winding streets opening up into large squares that are often filled with locals relaxing in one of the many cafs. We set out on a walking tour, discovering the canals, churches, and noble old town-houses that make Bruges such a delight to wander through.Day 6 - ArnhemMooring in Arnhem this morning, you have free time to look around. In the afternoon, choose between a guided tour of the Hartenstein Airborne Museum or a visit to the Netherlands Open Air Museum. Located in nearby Oosterbeek, the Hartenstein Airborne Museum focuses on the fierce Battle of Arnhem during World War II, an event which inspired the war film A Bridge too Far.
