b'AVIGNON PROVENCE AND THE ELEGANT RHNE YOUR ITINERARYDay 1 - London, Lyon and BeauneLeaving London St Pancras on the Eurostar, we travel to Paris and continue to Lyon where we board the Amadeus Provence. Settling into our cabins, we enjoy a welcome cocktail before our first 5-course dinner. Afterwards, we begin our cruise, setting sail for Chalon-sur-Saone. Day 2 - Wine tasting in BeauneWe arrive into Beaune this morning. Deep in the heart of Burgundys wine region, Beaune is a classic French medieval town with impressive town walls, terracotta roofs and fascinating historical buildings. We set out on a guided walking tour, discovering the sights as we wander the enchanting streets. We enjoy a tasting of some delectable wines which LYON make this town, and the Burgundy region so famous. Back on board, we enjoy a relaxing afternoon cruising back to Lyon.Day 3 - LyonArriving in Lyon, sat on the meeting point between the Rhne and the Sane Rivers, we head out for a guided tour. The beautiful pinks, oranges, reds and whites of the buildings along Lyons river-front give some indication of the citys elegance, and our tour allows us to explore the extensive history here. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and many of the small shops and traditional businesses lend a truly French flair to our surroundings. After returning to the ship for lunch, we enjoy an afternoon cruising to Tournon sur Rhne. This is one of the most scenic and panoramic sections of the river, and its well worth taking the time to admire the scenery from the spacious sun deck. Rolling hills, dotted with verdant vineyards, rise and fall away under the gaze of various chteaux and stately homes - a beautiful sight.ARLES Day 4 - The Train de lArdcheThis morning we travel by coach to Tournon sur Rhnes station to board the Train de lArdche. Offering a memorable journey through the stunning environs of the spectacular Gorges du Doux region, this railway winds up the various foothills and valleys that makes the scenery here so dramatic. Several stone bridges criss-cross the brooks and rivers that snake under the trees, and our charming locomotive takes us through landscapes no other form of transport can access. Later, our ship continues to the White City of Avignon.Day 5 - Discovering AvignonWe head out on a guided tour of Avignon, a city famous as the seat of the Pope for a brief period in the 14th century. Its striking white papal palaces and majestic cathedral are just some of the highlights we see walking through the boulevards and squares of Avignons historic centre, which earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 1995. Afterwards, we THE ARDCHE GORGE visit the Popes Palace itself, admiring its spectacular interiors and the range of holy and religious artefacts collected here. Youre then free until early evening to explore the city at your own pace. After dinner tonight, our ship sets sail for Arles.Day 6 - Arles and the Camargue Delta or Pont du GardWe begin the day with a guided tour of pretty Arles, whose delightful streets provided the inspiration for many of Vincent Van Goghs most famous paintings. In the afternoon, you have the choice of two excursions, a visit to the Camargue Delta or the Pont du Gard . Your first option takes you to the area where the Rhne opens out into the Mediterranean and the beautiful Camargue Delta. This is a true treat for nature lovers, as the wetlands and park area are home to nearly 400 species of bird species, including an instantly-recognisable flock of pink flamingos.
