b'LAMEGO DISCOVER THE DOURO YOUR ITINERARY Day 1 - London and PortoWe fly from London Gatwick to Porto, transferring to the Douro Serenity on arrival. We enjoy some time to settle into our new surroundings with a welcome cocktail ahead of dinner this evening. Day 2 - LamegoWe cruise into Regua today. In the afterrnoon, we pay a visit to Lamego, a picturesque village near the banks of the Douro, for a guided tour. The cathedral is the centre-point of Lamego, and a remarkable example of Baroque architecture. Arguably more impressive, however, are the 700 steps which lead up to its doors, decorated in cheerful white and blue tiles. Were treated to dinner at a local wine estate later. The marvellous CATHEDRAL OF SALAMANCA vineyards here produce some of the sublime Port wines which are such an integral part of the Douros viticulture, lending an memorable touch to our meal this evening. Day 3 - Castelo RodrigoWe sail to Barca dAlva, and after lunch head to the historic town of Castelo Rodrigo. This charming destination offers a look into the medieval past of Portugal and the Douro region, with a history that goes all the way back to the Roman period. All the different eras are evident from the fascinating buildings which line the streets, including a synagogue and the remains of medieval town-houses. We enjoy a tour here that takes in the old castle before some free time to wander the ancient streets at your own pace.Days 4-5 - Salamanca and Peso de ReguaToday takes us across the border into Portugals beautiful neighbour, GUIMARES Spain. We travel through enchanting countryside to the golden city of Salamanca, in the Castille y Lon region. Salamanca is the academic capital of Spain, which is evidenced in the sandstone university buildings that make up one of the most prestigious centres of learning in the country. Our tour takes us to see these buildings, as well as the decorative House of Shells and the thriving Plaza Mayor. Enjoy some free time afterwards before we sample a traditional Spanish lunch at a local restaurant. Our entertainment during the meal is a dazzling flamenco show, where trained dancers perform this iconic Spanish dance of passion and finesse. Back on board, we enjoy a BBQ dinner as we take in the stunning views from the sun deck. Day 5 is spent cruising to Peso de Regua, enjoying the picture-perfect scenery that we sail past. After dinner, we enjoy an authentic taste of Portugal as we sample some of the regions vintage Port following a traditional opening ceremony.Day 6 - Mateus Palace and GardensWe pay a visit to the gorgeous Mateus Palace, instantly recognisable PORTO from the Mateus rose wine labels, and its stunning gardens. This 18th-century stately home is a delight to explore with its classic, Italianate exterior, decorative interiors and beautifully manicured gardens. We take a tour before free time to visit the propertys chapel and winery. On our return to the ship, we sit down with the captain for a gala dinner, offering a chance to reminisce about our adventures on Portugals finest river. After our meal, were entertained with a traditional folk dance performance from a local troupe.Day 7 - PortoWe arrive into Porto this morning, the famous port city which marks the end point of the Douro River. You have a choice of two excursions; a guided city tour or a trip to Guimares. Your first option sees you getting to know the city both by coach and on foot.
