b'CONSTANA WONDERS OF THE DANUBE AND THE BLACK SEA DELTA YOUR ITINERARYDay 1 - London and BucharestAfter meeting at London Heathrow, we fly to Bucharest, Romanias lively capital city. We arrive at our hotel for the night where a delicious three-course dinner kicks off our holiday.Day 2 - BucharestDiscover the contrasting blend of Art Nouveau palaces, medieval homes, stark Stalinist architecture and 21st-century modernist skyscrapers that make Bucharest an intriguing and dynamic city. We sit down to lunch at a local restaurant before transferring to our ship, where were welcomed with a drink and have some time to settle in before sitting down to enjoy our first five-course dinner. IRON GATE GORGEDay 3 - Danube Delta safariWe hop aboard smaller safari boats for a nature cruise through the UNESCO-listed Danube Delta. This is the worlds third-highest biodiversity area after the Great Barrier Reef and the Galapagos Islands, as well as an area of spectacular natural beauty. The specialist biosphere reserve is packed with rare species of wildlife, including the golden jackal and white-tailed eagle, and boasts the largest pelican colony in the delta. Our cruise gives us the chance to admire both animals and plants its not possible to spot anywhere else in the world - truly a remarkable experience. This afternoon we take in the views as we enjoy a relaxed sailing to Fetesti.Day 4 - ConstanaWe visit the port town of Constana, on the shores of the Black Sea. The town has a fascinating ancient history, with its Greek origins blending WALKING HERD IN THE PUSZTA with Roman and Persian influences. Discover this intriguing heritage and take in the Great Mosque, Art Nouveau Casino and Genovese Lighthouse. A short visit to the citys History and Archaeology Museum is also enlightening, and theres even time to stroll along the pristine beach, drinking up sweeping views of the Black Sea before returning to our ship.Day 5 - Veliko TarnovoWe arrive in Bulgaria, docking in Ruse for a visit to Veliko Tarnovo, one of the countrys oldest towns and once the cornerstone of Bulgarias 14th-century empire. Our guided tour introduces us to the mighty Zarewez fortress and the impressive St Peter and Paul medieval church before we have the chance to discover some local arts and crafts. Day 6 - The Iron Gate GorgeSpend a relaxed day on board as we sail towards Belgrade, passing through the Iron Gate Gorge during the afternoon. We enjoy informative commentary as we travel past striking mossy cliffs, seeing the incredible BUDAPEST carving of Romanian battle hero Decebalus, which is hewn into the rocks. Day 7 - SerbiaWe moor in the Serbian capital of Belgrade and head out on a guided tour. The citys varied history is evident in its architecture, and we see the Kalemegdan Fortress, the oldest surviving part of the city which dates back to the 3rd century and offers views across the Danube and Sava Rivers. We continue to Belgrades National Museum before seeing the parliament building, Terazije Square and the Palace of Princess Ljubica, with its Oriental-style architectural influences. After lunch on board, we take to the waters, sailing to Mohcs.Day 8 - Hungarian Puszta tourWe arrive in the quiet riverside town of Mohcs where we have a little time to explore before venturing into the Puszta area of Hungary. 64 THE DANUBE RIVER'
