Tour highlights
Days 1-2 - Vancouver
Downtown Vancouver

Arrive in Vancouver and make your way to your hotel. The rest of your day is free to look around the city. Perhaps visit Stanley Park, home to a colourful collection of totem poles, or Gastown, where you can see the whistling steam clock in action. Enjoy included admission to the Vancouver Lookout, an impressive observation point that offers panoramic views over the city and waterfront. Following a leisurely morning on Day 2, make your way to the station to board The Canadian and begin your overnight journey to Jasper.

Days 3-5 - Jasper
Maligne Lake, Jasper

The Canadian pulls into Jasper this morning, a town set amidst the natural beauty of Jasper National Park. Marvel at the snow-capped Canadian Rockies and glacier-fed lakes before checking into your hotel for the next 3 nights. Day 4 includes a guided sightseeing tour of Jasper National Park. Follow in the footsteps of the country's early explorers and admire the Athabasca River Valley and Maligne Canyon, a 164-feet deep gorge of sheer limestone walls, and the turquoise waters of Maligne Lake. Enjoy free time on Day 5. Perhaps hike through some of the nature trails that weave their way throughout the area, embark on a wildlife excursion to glimpse wolves, elk, beavers and bears, or spend some time relaxing at the nearby hot springs.

Days 6-8 - By rail to Toronto
The Canadian train

Board The Canadian again today and continue your cross-country rail adventure. Over the next 3 days and nights, soak up fantastic views of the landscapes as you cross the Canadian Shield - a wild land of frozen lakes, snow-covered trees and isolated communities. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of caribou, eagles, wood buffalo or the elusive pygmy shrew. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is included each day on board.

Days 9-10 - Toronto
Toronto Skyline

The Canadian pulls into the heart of Toronto on Day 9, leaving time to relax for a final night of Canadian hospitality before your homeward journey.

The Canadian Train

The Canadian was the last Trans-Continental train to be built for the famed Canadian Pacific Railway. Consequently, it is a true classic. The original Streamliner coaches, built from stainless steel, have been fully restored to their 1950s splendour, and today The Canadian can be found traversing the rugged landscape between the cities of Vancouver and Toronto.

Great Rail Journeys' tours on The Canadian include travel in Sleeper Touring Class (formerly Silver and Blue Class), the best accommodation on board. Your private cabin will be furnished with a washbasin, WC, and mirror. During the day, you can also recline in a comfortable armchair.

Each cabin is serviced by professional crew members, who will ensure that you receive complimentary extras such as toiletries, bottled water, and fresh towels. Single and double cabins are available depending on your preference, and showers can be found at the end of the corridor.

The Park Car has a fabulous 1950's designed bar that provides aperitifs and wine, and an observation dome that offers panoramic views of Canada's remarkable scenery. This luxurious cabin is available exclusively to travellers in Sleeper Touring Class - so make the most of it!
