Your Highland adventure begins with your arrival into the Scottish capital today, for a two night stay at the 5-star Howard Hotel. This road is also home to the Scott Monument, built in 1840 as a tribute to Sir Walter Scott, one of the most important figures in Scottish literature. Inside you will find 287 steps leading up to some of the best views in Lothian. This afternoon, make your way to Edinburgh station and join the iconic Belmond Royal Scotsman train, your home for the next two nights. Once on board you will be immersed into a world of style, elegance and above all comfort. As the Scotsman begins its journey through Perthshire on the Highland Line, afternoon tea is served. Today you will travel to Rothiemurchus Estate, where you have a wide variety of activities to choose from such as claypigeon shooting, fishing or a tour of the estate. This is followed by refreshments which are served in the hunting lodge. This afternoon the train continues to Inverness for an excursion to the infamous battlefield at Culloden, before an evening visit to Strathisla Distillery. Tonight there is a formal dinner aboard, so don your finery for a traditional experience of Scottish hospitality.
As the train rides southwards, crossing the distinctive Forth Bridge, sit down to a full Scottish breakfast and take in the scenery one last time, before arriving back into Edinburgh Waverley station.
