Discover the picturesque Western Highlands
Discover the incredibly picturesque Western Highlands and the rugged, breathtaking coastal islands which lie off Scotland's western coast. This tour takes us on some of the world's most scenic railroad journeys as part of a truly memorable exploration of the Highlands.
Meet your group and Tour Manager at the either the Mercure Haymarket Edinburgh Hotel, Radisson Blu Edinburgh Hotel or the Novotel Edinburgh Center Hotel (departure dependent) in Edinburgh.
We journey along the incredible West Highland Line. At Fort William, we transfer by coach to the nearby village of Ballachulish, situated at the head of Loch Leven.
On Day 3 we join the Jacobite Steam Train* for an unforgettable journey to Mallaig along the final leg of the iconic West Highland Line, perhaps the most scenic stretch of track in the UK. We disembark the train in Mallaig, and, following free time here, transfer by coach to Glencoe. Back at our hotel, there's an evening of Scottish dancing and music.
*Please note: Some early departures may take this journey on the Scotrail scheduled service.
This morning, we travel by coach to Oban, where we have some free time. Later, we visit Duart Castle. After time to explore the castle's stately rooms and dungeons, we head to the Isle of Mull Hotel for 2 nights.
On Day 5 we enjoy a spectacular tour by boat around some of the tiny islands west of Mull. Here, minke whales and dolphins can sometimes be seen. Later we cruise to Iona, making a visit to Fingal's Caves on Staffa island.
We discover the fascinating wildlife of the Isle of Mull today, with an informative wildlife walk that takes us along a beautiful coastal route from Garmony to Fishnish. We also visit Tobermory again, where we enjoy entrance into the Tobermory Distillery for a tour and a dram of iconic Scotch whisky.
We transfer to the port this morning for our ferry back to the mainland. Arriving in Oban, we continue on the scenic West Highland Line to the vibrant city of Glasgow spending the night in a local hotel.
Our tour finishes after breakfast on Day 8, and you are free to make you way to the aiport for your flight home.

Thoroughly enjoyed the round of experiences in this vacation. A bit spoilt by the weather.
Some of the hotels and food could have been bhetter
It was good, but disappointing not to get on the Mountain railroad (not the fault of GRJ. We didn't go to Staffa, apparently no Puffins at this time of year, but we enjoyed the day on Iona instead.
Very enjoyable but some of the hotels were difficult for disabled persons
Had a great time liked have several nights in each location
Disappointment with second hotel. Spoilt vacation. Also a little too much time spent waiting on stations for trains.
Very enjoyable. The itinerary first attracted me and did not disappoint. The tour manager was friendly and made very sound decisions, especially as regards transporting luggage. Even the weather exceeded my expectations.
Great itinerary, great tour manager, all journeys worked out well.
Very comprehensive tour of the region led by an excellent tour manager. Accommodations and dining also very good in well-chosen locations. A very enjoyable vacation which was both pleasant and interesting.
Enjoyed having a tour mansger compared to being on other coach or tours with other companies which have tour guides. By leaving us to find out more about a place and giving time to take the landscape and atmosphere in, chat with other members or wandering off exploring when we had a break, I found this more relaxing and less tiring overall.
