NO SINGLE SUPPLEMENT*
Enjoy an authentic German Christmas with this festive tour which delves deep into the heart of rural Germany to uncover magnifi cent cities, spectacular rail journeys and sublime countryside. Experience Berlin, Dresden and Freiburg during your time in the Ore Mountains of Saxony.
Meet your Tour Manager and the rest of the group at our dedicated departure office at London St Pancras, where you board the Eurostar service travelling to Brussels. On arrival here, change trains for Cologne and Berlin. Arriving into the German capital, check into your hotel where you enjoy a buffet dinner later tonight. On Day 2, we take a guided tour, exploring the fascinating stories behind iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg gate and Checkpoint Charlie. After our tour, we head to the station to catch our train to Freiberg in the beautiful Ore Mountains in Saxony.
Today is Christmas Eve and our excursion takes us to the vibrant town of Dresden. Full of gorgeous examples of Baroque buildings, Dresden is the capital of Saxony, and its impressive resplendence is evidence of its fantastic history and economic power. We enjoy a guided tour here before some free time to marvel at the superb Christmas displays. Before leaving, we enjoy lunch in a Dresden restaurant.
On Day 4, it is Christmas Day and we enjoy the first of our rail journeys on this tour. Delving deep into the Saxony countryside and the Weisseritz Valley, the Weißeritztalbahn is the oldest narrow gauge railway still open to the public. A wonderful steam engine, this railway is a trip back in time through the serene beauty of the Ore Mountains. We enjoy a Christmas lunch at the hotel on our return. Later, we embark on a tour of Freiburg, enjoying the half-timbered houses and the charming old Rathaus.
We venture forth on another steam train journey today, travelling on the magnificent Fichtelbergbahn through some glorious landscapes, rising higher up into the mountains. This enchanting old locomotive dates all the way back to 1897 and takes us to the idyllic resort of Oberwiesenthal.
Our final heritage rail journey is on the remarkable Lößnitzgrundbahn. Running through the stunning Lössnitz valley, this steam engine was first opened in 1884, and takes us to Mortizburg where we you have the choice of continuing to visit the Meissen Porcelain Factory to see how the world famous Meissen Porcelain is made, or visiting the menacing Colditz Castle for a guided tour.
We leave Freiburg today, travelling to Frankfurt by rail and then on to Cologne. Here we stay a night before continuing to Brussels, and finally on to London.
