Itinerary
Our holiday begins this morning as we meet at London St Pancras before travelling on the Eurostar service to Paris. From here, we continue by rail to the enchanting city of Strasbourg where we spend our first night. After dinner, you can enjoy a leisurely evening roaming the town's twisting alleys and crooked half-timbered houses. Or, cosy up in one of the delightful winstubs - traditional Alsatian taverns.

The rail journeys were a complete debacle. They changed the hotels and train times everyday which resulted in long trains journeys, hotels not ready with inferior food offered. I did not go on holiday to set off on a train at 7am part way through the holiday. the Glacier Express was cancelled at last minute, which was the reason for the holiday. total disappointment!! the river cruise was very good

I’m not sure if you are aware but our recent trip along with our fellow 26 passengers endured a terrible trip due to glacier express being cancelled and GRJ still taking us on numerous trains and buses over ten hours just to get from Davos to Zermatt and the same for the return journey. This trip should have been cancelled as GRJ knew the glacier express was cancelled due to track damage. The hotel food was very poor and the on the ship our deluxe balcony cabin was turned into an inside one due to other boats mooring within a few inches causing safety security and privacy issues. I have sent a letter to Dave Riley detailing our complaints.

Three reviews in one: 1 - the booking experience could have been better. I (the Mrs) booked and paid for the holiday but everything was addressed to my husband. It should be to the booker or to both. The change of itinerary for the Switzerland part of the trip was announced rather suspiciously the day after the balance of the booking fee had been paid. 2 - the first day's journey by Eurostar to Paris and then across Paris by coach to get another train to Basel was incredibly tight. We had five - five! - minutes to spare to get on our train, including manhandling our luggage. Why couldn't the Baggageman service have been used for this part of the trip instead of just to the cruise ship? There were several other occasions where connections were very tight which definitely took some enjoyment out of the holiday. The hotels were ok, but the provided evening meals were mediocre. I don't regard the equivalent of a salad garnish - a few leaves and a piece of tomato - as a starter. The switch from 'charming Chur' to Davos, which is basically a giant conference centre, was also a disappointment. The single course lunch we received in the First Class section of the Glacier Express was also less than expected, particularly as there was a printed three-course set lunch menu on our tables, so obviously that's what we were expecting. 3 - Aside from the rather grim-looking dock in Strasbourg, the river cruise to Amsterdam - food, tour guides, Amadeus Star staff - was excellent and we couldn't fault the food. In summary - if I was to book a combined holiday again, I would definitely choose one with less hotel changes.

The administration prior to the holiday left a lot to be desired, this impacted on the train element of the holiday. The Cruise on the Amadeus star was very good, food excellent, cabins cleaned beautifully. Staff friendly and efficient.
