Itinerary

Days 1-2 - To Germany

Meet your Tour Manager and the rest of the group at our dedicated departure office at London St Pancras, where you board the Eurostar service travelling to Brussels. On arrival here, change trains for Cologne where you have some time to visit the charming Christmas markets. On Day 2, we head to the station to catch our train to Annaberg-Buschholz in the beautiful Ore Mountains in Saxony.

Annaberg-Buchholz
Days 3-4 - Christmas on the Fichtelbergbahn

Today is Christmas Eve and we venture forth on a steam train journey today, travelling on the magnificent Fichtelbergbahn through some glorious landscapes, rising higher up into the mountains. This enchanting old locomotive dates all the way back to 1897 and takes us to the idyllic resort of Oberwiesenthal.

On Day 4, it is Christmas Day and we enjoy a visit to the famous Factory of Dreams, a fascinating gallery displaying the incredible craftworks of the Ore Mountains, including toys, miniatures and sculptures made with materials from the region. After this, we sit down to a traditional Christmas dinner, with all manner of German delicacies on offer. Later, we embark on a guided tour of Annaberg- Buchholz, seeing the town lit up in festive splendour including its beautiful townhouses and the town hall.

Days 5-6 - Boxing Day in Annaberg-Buschholz and The Ore Mountains Museum

Today, we make the short walk to St Anne's Church in the heart of town where we are treated to a brief, but enchanting organ recital before a guided tour around the Late-Gothic church itself, which dates back to the 15th century. We continue across town to another church, the 16th century St Marien Mountain Church which is famously dedicated to the miners who worked in the Ore Mountains. Within, we see the remarkable Miner's Nativity, whose charming and ornate nativity scenes display the astonishing craftsmanship of the residents of Annaberg-Buschholz.

We pay a visit to the fascinating Ore Mountain's Museum on Day 6, which details the absorbing history of the mining industry which characterised life in this region. We then descend into one of the old mines, to discover first hand what it was like to mine for the silver ore for which this region is known.

Annaberg-Buchholz
Days 7-8 - Return Home

We leave Annaberg-Buschholz today, travelling to Cologne by rail. Here we stay a night before continuing to Brussels, and finally on to London.
