Interlaken

The stunning Bernese Oberland is one of the most beautiful regions in the Swiss Alps. The scenery encompasses everything you would expect to see in Switzerland - snow-capped mountain peaks, fresh mountain air, rolling hillsides, jagged rocks and awesome glaciers. The entire region provides a year-round playground for walkers, climbers, hikers and skiers, combining towering mountains with picturesque lakes and endless forests. Set in the heart of the Bernese Oberland is the captivating capital of the region - Interlaken. The charming city is wedged between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and is surrounded by the majestic triple peaks of the Jungfrau, the Eiger and the Mönch mountains.

Interlaken is an excellent starting point for adventures into the Bernese Oberland and provides an excellent 'base camp' for a comprehensive exploration of the surrounding Alps - over 45 mountain railroads, cable cars, chair lifts and ski lifts lead to 200 kilometres of groomed ski pistes and a dense network of hiking trails. Excursion ships, including historic paddle steamers, ply the waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

Murren
The pretty, traffic free village of Mürren can be reached via Lauterbrunnen. From Mürren, the highly recommended Schilthorn cable car climbs to the awe-inspiring Piz Gloria revolving summit restaurant, made famous in the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". A journey to the "Top of Europe" is possible from Interlaken.

“Very well organised, relaxed, friendly, wonderful location, excellent hotel and meals.
First Class Glacier Express in Winter
Mr G Whittaker
“A very enjoyable and well-packaged vacation, with an experienced and very approachable tour manager. Excellent traditional hotels. Extremely good value for money. But …. The group was FAR too large for a "First Class" vacation - and that would stop me trusting GRJ's descriptions in future !! Too many changes to the published itinerary. Not a good idea to have long and tiring day trips on either the first day in Switzerland or the last day before travel home.
Grand Alpine Explorer
Mr M Ward
“The hotels were of variable standard. We felt the hotel in Traunkirchen was not of 4 star standard with regard to facilities, room, and the hotel was not particularly well situated. The dinners served in St Moritz were of poor quality and appeared to have been prepared on an extremely tight budget. However the hotel in Innsbruck was excellent and we would have preferred more time there than in Traunkirchen. The total porterage worked excellently which is why we give the vacation 4 and not 3.
Wengen & the Jungfrau Express
Mrs A Fay
“Sweitzerland was so pretty. Their trains were clean and bright and their staff at local level were very pleasant. Our hotel was full of character but was too far up the hill in Wengen.
