Itinerary

Day 1 - London to Strasbourg

Meeting at London St Pancras, depart for Paris, continuing on the TGV to Strasbourg where you spend the night.

Includes
  • Dinner
Day 2 - Strasbourg to Wilderswil

Make the most of a free morning to explore beautiful Strasbourg. 'La Petite France' is a wonderful location for a stroll; this historic quarter of Strasbourg is divided by the River Ill and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988, largely due to its abundance of half-timbered buildings. Another must-see sight is the magnificent Cathedral of our Lady of Strasbourg. This remarkable building is commonly considered to be one of the best examples of high-Gothic architecture in Europe.

In the afternoon, you continue by rail to Switzerland, arriving into the heart of the Alps, via Basel, for your five night stay in Wilderswil.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 - The Jungfrau Express

Enjoy one of your holiday highlights today, a return journey to the 'Top of Europe', Jungfraujoch. The first leg of your spectacular rail adventure takes you on the Bernese Oberland Railway, winding through beautiful Alpine scenery on a line that dates back to 1890. In Kleine Scheidegg, you meet up with the Jungfrau Express for your sensational journey to the top of the mountain.

Much of the journey is spent in darkness as you climb steeply through a tunnel deep inside the Eiger and the Mönch mountains, before emerging just below the summit of the Jungfrau. Nestled between the peaks of the Jungfrau and Mönch, the Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in the continent at over 11,000 feet above sea level. The views here are awe-inspiring, and you'll find yourself immersed in a snow-globe world of wintry beauty.

There's some free time here. Head to the Sphinx observatory for the best views; reached by a lift and nestled a further 384 feet up the mountain, you'll be treated to panoramic vistas of endless mountain peaks and the immense Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. You could also head to Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven for an insight into the history and making of Swiss chocolate, or visit the Ice Palace to admire the elaborate sculptures. The Alpine Sensation exhibition is also well worth a visit. Step onto a moving walkway and step back in time, as enchanting projected images and music tell of the history of tourism in the Alps and pay tribute to the miners who built the Jungfrau Railway over 100 years ago.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 - Interlaken

Interlaken is your destination today. The capital of the beautiful Bernese Oberland is one of the most popular regions in the Swiss Alps, and it's easy to see why. Its scenery showcases all the hallmarks of a picture-postcard Swiss location, with its snow-capped peaks, rolling hillsides, rugged rocky outcrops, and pristine glaciers. The region provides a year-round playground for climbers, walkers, and skiers.

Interlaken is set in the very heart of this captivating landscape, wedged between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun and surrounded by three peaks; the Jungfrau, the Eiger, and the Monch Mountains. Because of its location Interlaken is a great starting point for any adventure in the Bernese Oberland. You're free to explore at your own pace using your included travel card. Perhaps take a cruise across Lake Thun and experience the spectacular winter scenes.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 - Grindelwald

Travel by train to Grindelwald, a pretty Alpine village tucked away at the foot of the north face of the Eiger. Grindelwald is one of Europe's oldest mountain resorts. In the 1920s, as the popularity of skiing rose, so in turn did Grindelwald's. The village itself has an abundance of Swiss charm and is surrounded by open skiing fields in winter. You can explore the area at your own pace before returning to Wilderswil ahead of dinner.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6 - At leisure

Today, you are free to discover the area further. Perhaps cross the Brunig Pass to Lucerne and discover this pretty lakeside city. Lucerne exudes class, culture, and history, made up by the beautifully preserved medieval architecture which dots the centre of town. Well worth a visit is the 14th-century Chapel Bridge with the impressive Water Tower which rises up from the lake. Both of these are regarded as the most photographed sights in all of Switzerland.

Day 7 – Wilderswil & London

Your holiday ends today, as you board a train to Lausanne. From here you travel by TGV to Paris, where you connect with the Eurostar back to London St Pancras.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch
