Itinerary

Day 1 - London to picturesque Strasbourg

Your holiday starts when you meet your group and Tour Manager at London St Pancras to join the Eurostar to Paris. From here, we change trains and continue by rail to the attractive French city of Strasbourg for the first night of our holiday. There's time to look around pretty Strasbourg before dinner - don't miss the area called 'Little France', with its half-timbered houses, cobblestoned streets and medieval atmosphere. Tonight we dine at a local restaurant.

Includes
  • Dinner
Day 2 - Wilderswil

Make the most of a free morning in vibrant Strasbourg, before we travel by rail to Wilderswil - a quaint village in a pretty alpine valley - for a wonderful six-night, all-inclusive stay. The scenery becomes more dramatic as we travel south - look out for the shimmering turquoise waters of Lake Thun before our train reaches Wilderswil. This cute Swiss village is surrounded by the impressive Mönch, Eiger and Jungfrau mountains and it's the perfect base to explore the enchanting villages and landscapes of the Bernese Oberland.

Our family-run hotel, the Alpenblick, is a traditional Swiss chalet-style hideaway, nestled in the heart of the tiny village. The friendly owners are Richard, a chef, and Yvonne, his wife, who is a wine specialist. As you'd expect, the pair know all about regional specialities and their hotel is highly rated by its customers, especially for food.

Our all-inclusive stay includes breakfast, a picnic lunch and dinner each day, with selected wine, beer and soft drinks from 7-9pm each evening.

  • Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 - A day to explore Interlaken

This morning you're free to explore nearby Interlaken by rail, ready for adventure with a Swiss Travel Card and a packed lunch from our hotel. This attractive resort town is set between two sparkling blue lakes - Lake Brienz and Lake Thun - with an alpine backdrop of snow-dusted mountains. Interlaken buzzes with life and has a variety of cafés, bakeries and shops - from souvenir outlets to Swiss watch retailers - and you can wander to your heart's content. The town's historic centre is compact, so it's easy to discover the medieval monastery, castle and ancient square on foot.

Interlaken is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, so whether you're looking for an adventure or just a peaceful stroll, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Maybe take the funicular railway for a 10-minute trip to the top of Harder Kulm, where you can enjoy panoramic views above Interlaken and across both lakes at once. Another great option is to take a peaceful boat cruise on gorgeous Lake Thun - your Swiss Travel Card gives you a 50% discount on this and other boat tours, as well as for most trains and mountain railways. Dinner with selected drinks is included this and every evening at our hotel.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 - Schynige Platte

On departures from July: We take a scenic journey on the Schynige Platte Railway. With restored 19th-century carriages hauled by a vintage electric locomotive, the railway has a nostalgic Belle Époque feel. As the train winds its way up the mountain, the scenery is absolutely stunning, with lush green forests, sparkling alpine lakes, and snow-capped peaks soaring towards the sky. You'll have plenty of opportunities to take photos and enjoy the panoramic view from the top - this is considered the best place to see the Jungfrau mountain! As we step off the train there's a café with a lovely terrace to look out from. Another bonus at the top is the beautiful Botanical Alpine Garden with hundreds of species of delicate alpine flowers, and entry is included.

On departures from April - July: We explore the lakeside town of Lucerne, by rail. On this scenic journey our train travels next to shimmering Lake Brienz, climbing over the Brünig Pass, with large picture windows to take in the sights. Lucerne has an attractive old town with stunning medieval architecture, including the 14th century Chapel Bridge and the Water Tower, and streets lined with colourful flowers and characterful shops. Walk along the waterfront for fabulous views of the surrounding mountains and crystal-clear Lake Lucerne. Or maybe explore Lucerne's cultural heritage, in one of its many museums and art galleries.

Whichever excursion you join, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch. At the end of the day we return to our hotel for dinner and selected inclusive drinks.

Includes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 - A free day in Wilderswil

Today is completely free, giving you a chance to take things at your own pace - enjoy a relaxed day in Wilderswil or set off to a destination of your own choice. If you'd like to take it easy, take a walk around the perfectly-Swiss village into a picture-book setting, or watch the world go by from a traditional café.

If you're feeling more adventurous you could use your Swiss Travel Card to visit one of the lovely villages of the beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley - for example, Mürren, a quaint village at the foot of the Schilthorn, the fairytale village of Grindelwald, close to the Eiger north face, or the mountain resort of Wengen, just beneath the Jungfrau with fantastic views of the valley. Or why not take a cable car trip to the top of the Schilthorn mountain, one of the highest peaks in the Jungfrau region? From the Schilthorn's viewing platform you're up close among Switzerland's three most iconic mountain peaks - the Eiger, Mönch and the Jungfrau - and visit the famous Piz Gloria revolving restaurant, featured in the James Bond classic film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.

However you decide to spend your day, you can look forward to dining at our hotel this evening.

Day 6 - The iconic Jungfrau Express

Just when you think you've seen it all, day six brings an unforgettable journey on the legendary Jungfrau Express to the 'Top of Europe'! We set out on the Bernese Oberland Railway, winding through the countryside to the mountain train station of Kleine Scheidegg. Here we join the cogwheel train, the Jungfrau Express for the incredible journey to the continent's highest railway station. Our route takes us into a tunnel dug right through the rocks of the Eiger mountain before arriving at Jungfraujoch - as we step out of the train we enter a wintry world of eternal snow, no matter the season. Here, you're free to admire the countless awe-inspiring mountain peaks from the Sphinx observatory, be wowed by the endless Aletsch Glacier, enjoy your picnic lunch in jaw-dropping surroundings, or maybe head to Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven to see how Swiss Chocolate is made. You could also visit the Alpine Sensation exhibition which uses projected images and music to pay tribute to the miners who built the Jungfrau Railway over 100 years ago.

We return to our hotel at the end of the afternoon and have time to relax before dinner.

You'll also have a chance to see the lake's many natural wonders and waterfalls which spill down the mountainside. On arrival in the cute village of Brienz, there's some free time to look around. Brienz is known for its wood carvings and you'll notice several wooden buildings here with intricate details, and shops display examples of this artisan craft.
