Your holiday begins this morning as we meet at London St Pancras. Boarding the Eurostar, we head by rail to Amsterdam.
On arrival in the Dutch capital, we're greeted onboard by our friendly crew and sip on a welcome cocktail while taking in the waterside views. There is time to unwind and familiarise yourself with the luxurious new surroundings and settle into your cabin.
Later this evening, we enjoy our first dinner together in the panoramic restaurant accompanied by a wonderful performance from a traditional Dutch Sea Shanty choir - the perfect start to a fantastic cruise down the Rhine.

Enhance your holiday
Spending a night in London before your tour can make such a difference to the first day of your holiday - you can arrive in the capital in good time, relaxed and ready to join your Tour Manager the next morning. You may even want to take in a show on the West End or dine in one of London's famous restaurants. Perhaps on your return to London, you would like to break your journey with an overnight stay before continuing home.
We can book a wide range of hotels in central London or, for our holidays beginning with a flight, at Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester Airport for the night before or after your holiday. If you require a quote for single occupancy at any of the hotels, please contact us on 01904 734 805.
Buying tickets for UK train services can be a tricky business - there are so many fares to choose from, each with different rules and restrictions. As you are connecting with an international departure, we strongly recommend that you book a fully flexible ticket to ensure that should the departure times for your holiday change, your rail ticket can allow for these changes.
We can book fully-flexible UK rail tickets from your local station to join your holiday whether this be a European holiday from St Pancras or a UK holiday. The prices are competitive and tickets are not restricted to a particular train or time of day, and in most cases offer you a free choice of routes.
For an up to date quote from your local station, please ask one of our Tour Advisors.

On board it was a 10/10 experience. The Manager, Rob Lippitt was outstanding along with the amazing 'waiting' staff at tables. The whole cruise on board was a 'slick performance'. Also you found some very effective and extremely knowledgeable local guides. However I would not book a cruise again as there were too many offboard trips in a single day or where we had a single trip it was too short. Take Cologne for example: We visited the beautiful Cathedral but then a brief visit to a bier cellar and back on board for lunch. We saw nothing else of the City! In fact Cologne could be excluded from this tour. Cochem was the best day with plenty of time to see everything. Koblenz was an early morning brief visit with hardly anything open before 10am yet we were sailing again at 11am! If you exclude Koblenz we would arrive at Rudesheim a lot earlier! At Rudesheim we saw the amazing Mechanical Music Museum after a tourist train ride of the vineyards we hadn't asked for leaving only about 45mins to see the town! Exclude Koblenz, problem solved. Heidelberg we were again rushed and only an hour's time to see the town, because we had to travel on to visit Speyer where there was little time to see much at all. Speyer could be left out of the tour! Strasbourg was lovely to see but little time here as we had to be back on board for lunch to give us time to travel on to Basel for our rail journey the next day. Now, here's the thing! The train from Basel to Paris went through - you've guessed it - STRASBOURG! A high number of fellow travellers thought that was ridiculous , we could have got a train from Strasbourg to Paris! The time spent cruising to Basel was unnecessary and could have been better spent having more time on the earlier trips. We were informed that this Year's organiser of this tour thought it best to give tourists 'tasters' of (several) towns on the Rhine. Sorry, big mistake - LESS WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER! Happy to be involved in any customer involvement in your future plans. Peter Debnam.

Very professional staff both Great Rail Journey's staff and those driving the boat, good food and drink. Visited beautiful towns and went through beautiful countryside. Great views from the boat. Other holidaymakers very friendly. Would like to go on another Great Rail Journey Boat Trip next year as this was such a great experience.
