Chur

Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland and is ideally placed for exploring the south-east of the country thanks to its excellent transport links. Whilst it is the end of the line for the SBB main line trains, it is also a key centre for the metre-gauge Rhatische Bahn that runs through to St Moritz, Davos, Arosa and into Italy, as well as the Glacier Express line to Disentis. The Tourist Office is located at the station near the bottom of the escalator at the main entrance.

The 12th century cathedral is well worth a visit, combining Gothic and Romanesque styles. The old town is grouped around Martinsplatz with the arcaded Rathaus (Town Hall) dating from 1464 and St Martins Reformed parish church dating from 1491 to 1526. There are many pedestrianised streets to explore through the old town with a good selection of shops, or why not enrich your mind at one of Chur's many museums?

“Well organised and enjoyable trip with an excellent tour leader in Caroline Bryan. Good hotels - Freieck in Chur did the best breakfast I've eaten on the continent. Bernerhof pretty good too. Booking staff helpful especially when we had to change arrangements to get to London due to rail strikes. Very pleased with the luggage transfer service - GRJ should make more of this in publicity. Similarly for the coach transfers between Paris stations. Have never liked travelling through Paris since a long ago attempt attempted theft on the Metro so coach transfer great. Drawbacks, not many, perhaps more meals could have been included. Also we could have got an earlier Eurostar back from Paris: that would have helped us get home at a more sensible time but overall a good scenic holiday. At the reduced price it was reasonable value for money
