About the tour

Soak up the renowned beauty of one of Europe's most celebrated waterways. On this unique cruise, we experience the Rhine river in an unforgettable way as part of the spectacular Rhine in Flames procession. The rest of our days are spent drifting by forested valleys, discovering half-timbered towns, and exploring remarkable cities as we journey through the Netherlands and Germany aboard our luxury Amadeus ship.


What’s included


Day 1 - Amsterdam

Today, meet your Tour Manager and the rest of your group before travelling on the Eurostar service to Amsterdam, where you'll be escorted to the ship. This evening, we enjoy a welcome cocktail before dinner this evening. During our delicious five-course meal this evening, we're treated to a wonderful performance from a traditional Dutch Sea Shanty choir - the perfect start to our cruise.

Day 2 – Discover Amsterdam

After another fabulous meal for breakfast, we head into Amsterdam for a guided tour. From idyllic canals and large parks to contemporary art galleries and futuristic architecture, this is a city that has something for everyone. We immerse ourselves in the cosy culture Dutch cities are renowned for as we meander through gabled buildings, narrow lanes, and charming gar-dens.

Day 3 – Cologne & The Rhine in Flames

Sailing into Cologne this morning, we adventure this vibrant German city on a walking tour. Vis-iting the impressive cathedral, we admire the dramatic spires that define Cologne's skyline be-fore exploring this historic city further. As we wander through the many bustling squares and labyrinthine streets, keep an eye out for the lovely Romanesque townhouses.

This evening, we moor into Bonn for the highlight of our cruise - the Rhine in Flames proces-sion. As we're a part of the spectacle, our boat is decorated with brilliant lights ready to im-merse in this sensational experience. From the best seat in the house, we celebrate as the skies light up, towns are illuminated, and the river shimmers with vibrant colour.

Day 4 - The Upper Rhine & the Drachenfelsbahn Railway

Drifting away from Cologne this morning, we soak up the marvellous Upper Rhine. As we sail through this captivating stretch of river - characterised by lush green meadows and postcard villages - our Cruise Director narrates its intriguing history and highlights.

In the afternoon, we dock in Koenigswinter, where we journey on the Drachenfelsbahn rail-way. This rack railway rises 948 feet into Drachenfels Mountain and high into the lush forests. Wonderful views across the Rhine grow more and more impressive the higher we climb as we pass fairytale buildings and stunning natural beauty.

Day 5 - Rüdesheim and the Rhine Gorge

This morning, explore Koblenz at your own pace before another highlight of our cruise this af-ternoon - the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Sailing through this beautiful section of the river we witness the sheer river banks rise up, towering over the river below and cov-ered in deep forests. Miles of green vineyards pass and we enjoy a commentary from our knowledgeable Cruise Director.

This evening we sail to the classic German town of Rüdesheim am Rhein, known for its formi-dable wine production, especially of the dry Riesling variety. You have time to explore this lovely city or maybe visit a local tavern for a glass of this famous wine.

Day 6 - Speyer and Heidelberg

We arrive in Speyer this morning, where you have time to explore at your own pace. From ar-chitectural gems and beautiful churches to medieval sites and culinary specialities, the city has quite a lot to offer. If you're a fan of impressive vehicles, then you could also visit the largest privately owned collection of vehicles in the world, the Technik Museum Speyer.

Later in the afternoon, we journey to the romantic city of Heidelberg for a guided tour. This enchanting city is famous for its magnificent ruined castle and wonderful Old Bridge, we dis-cover both on our tour and learn about their fascinating history.

Day 7 – Strasbourg or The Black Forest

Today, we sail into the charming German town of Kehl, where you have a choice between two fantastic excursions.

Your first option is a city tour of beautiful Strasbourg, uncovering its charm and history. Sat across the Rhine from Kehl, the striking city is positioned on the German-French border. This has seen it change hands between the two nations frequently throughout history, resulting in a unique representation of both cultures, with colourful half-timbered houses and cobbled streets.

Your second choice sees you travel into the famous Black Forest, passing through stunning fairytale panoramas. Deep valleys, thick woodlands, verdant meadows, and whimsical water-falls lie along the magical trails waiting for you to uncover their beauty.

Day 8 - Homeward bound

After a buffet breakfast, we disembark our magnificent ship and our cruise comes to an end. We journey to the railway station and board our train home.
