Gatimaan Express Train

We travel on the Gatimaan Express in India. Running 188km from Delhi to Agra in a journey that takes just over an hour and a half, this is India's first semi-high speed train and the fastest train in India. The Gatimaan Express first opened in early 2016. On board, you can be served traditional Indian cuisine by dedicated train hostesses, as you relax in fully air-conditioned carriages, and enjoy the passing Indian scenery. There is also complimentary Wi-Fi, and an app that provides access to movies, music, and news on board.

“We especially booked this tour for the Toy train ride to Shimla and were not disappointed with the ride or the town despite being caught in a tremendous rain storm. It was fun to come back via the road route to see it from another angle and appreciate the engineering difficulties in this area. The Cecil Hotel at Shimla was a real delight. All the hotels were of a high standard and food excellent - although we did find we needed to turn off the air conditioning from being too cold! The other hotel to mention was at Ranthanbhore with rooms set out around the garden and wild area. We should mention our local guide Rajendra who was excellent - both knowledgeable and helpful and all the different activities were efficiently managed. One minor problem was when I got the advance details of the itinerary and then this was changed the email did not highlight that the flight times were revised. I had to check carefully - it would have been hepful to say in the covering email and/or letter - please note this differs from the details already sent. I could have missed it as both letters seemed the same. The Indian visa was a bit of a job to sort out, lots of forms. We ended up going to London to get everything ready for the office when it was apparently done online. Not GRJ fault but worth knowing that this does take some effort and time/money.

“Over all the holiday was excellent but felt it was a bit full on with no rest period especially at the beginning of the tour, and was not keen on having to be at the restaurant for evening meals so early after a day of touring, sometimes only an hour left from getting back to the hotel and then rushing down to the restaurant
