Itinerary
Our Canadian adventure starts at London Heathrow where we meet our Tour Manager and our group before our flight to Vancouver. On arrival we are transferred to our downtown hotel for a three-night stay in this wonderful city, framed by mountains and encircled by water. This evening is free to relax or maybe to become acquainted with the local neighbourhood. Situated between the city's West End and Downtown district, our hotel is within walking distance of many Vancouver attractions, including the city waterfront - an extension of Downtown - which has a pedestrian walkway. There are several restaurants, cafés and bars nearby, or you may choose to dine at our hotel.

We really enjoyed this trip but would have preferred not quite so much free time. We would have paid a bit more for more content. But Carole was on hand with some ideas which helped. I loved the train but it was a bit chaotic getting a dinner reservation to suit us but was offered room service in the end. I did not really enjoy the dinner but breakfast was excellent.

The scenery was spectacular! However, more details about the trip in a day by day itinerary would have been nice. Also, the bus driver was actually the tour guide instead of the tour manager like previous tours I took with Vacations By Rail. The bus driver (Richard) was a wonderful man who even helped me across the ice! However, since he is Chinese, it was very difficult to understand his comments about different places on the tour. We also seemed to have too much free time. The food on the train was exceptional. However, paying for all our other meals got to be quite expensive. I liked having many meals included in the tour price when I traveled with VBR.

This is generally a good holiday. Plenty of beautiful scenery covered and there’s lots to see and do. The low point for us was the train we travelled overnight on, The Canadian. This really is a very tired and shabby train now, and an expensive way to travel. We upgraded for an additional £600 for a 2 bed cabin which consisted of 2 bunk beds, a tight squeeze and a toilet. It’s so disappointing. If you’re going to do this holiday be prepared for that and consider travelling earlier than the group to spend an extra few days in Vancouver. The tour doesn’t do this city justice at all, there is so much to see.
