Krimml Waterfalls

The stunning waterfalls near the village of Krimml are among the many attractions of National Park Hohe Tauern, located at the Alpine core of Austria. This park is the second biggest wildlife preserve in Europe and the biggest in the Alps, extending over a territory of 1,800 square km. A variety of exotic animal and plant species that are endangered by extinction can be found in this beautiful, diverse park.

Krimml Waterfalls are among the most famous landmarks of the park. They are tiered, and descend in three stages. The upper stage has a drop of 140 metres, the middle of 100 metres, and the lowest a drop of 140 metres. With a total height of 380 metres, the waterfalls are not only Austria's tallest; they have a larger vertical drop than the Niagara Falls. There is a footpath passing close by, which provides a panoramic view of the upper falls, as well as the Wonder World of Water centre explaining the natural phenomena at work.
