Enhance your holiday
Spending a night in London before your tour can make such a difference to the first day of your holiday - you can arrive in the capital in good time, relaxed and ready to join your Tour Manager the next morning. You may even want to take in a show on the West End or dine in one of London's famous restaurants. Perhaps on your return to London, you would like to break your journey with an overnight stay before continuing home.
We can book a wide range of hotels in central London or, for our holidays beginning with a flight, at Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester Airport for the night before or after your holiday. If you require a quote for single occupancy at any of the hotels, please contact us on 01904 734 805.
Buying tickets for UK train services can be a tricky business - there are so many fares to choose from, each with different rules and restrictions. As you are connecting with an international departure, we strongly recommend that you book a fully flexible ticket to ensure that should the departure times for your holiday change, your rail ticket can allow for these changes.
We can book fully-flexible UK rail tickets from your local station to join your holiday whether this be a European holiday from St Pancras or a UK holiday. The prices are competitive and tickets are not restricted to a particular train or time of day, and in most cases offer you a free choice of routes.
For an up to date quote from your local station, please ask one of our Tour Advisors.

My husband and I are in our 70’s and we went on the Great Railway journeys River Cruise on the Amadeus Star. We felt we were with a matching age range and everyone was chatty and friendly. Our cabin was excellent, on the upper deck with a fantastic view of the river, boats, scenery etc. and two comfortable chairs to watch it all from. The room had everything needed - walk in wardrobe with large mirror, very comfortable bed, compact but useful bathroom, easy to turn on shower. The cleaning staff did a superb job of keeping the room up to scratch throughout the day. The meals were all as expected-good quality, well served, a good choice of menu. The 4 course dinner was always different and it was good to see the menu beforehand to make a choice. We enjoyed sitting with friends we had made every evening and the service was friendly and professional particularly the wine waiter. We enjoyed the birthday/anniversary celebration events with the lights, dancing waiters going to the wrong table-always amusing. Excursions were well planned and all went accordingly. Perhaps I could have done with more free time to wander! but I can see this wasn’t possible with the progress of the ship to the next port. The excursion/entertainment mangers Rob and Debs were always cheerful and organised and all went accordingly to plan. We particularly enjoyed the trips to Ypres Battlefields accompanied by Colonel Piers Storie-Pugh, who gave us an excellent talk the day before- full of lots of precise information, spoken in a straightforward manner in a most interesting way from which we could all picture the events as he described them. He accompanied us on the trenches tour and the cemeteries, giving us more relevant information. We also had a lovely talk from Charlie Dimmock with lots of entertaining Ground Force chat and garden tips. We then visited the Keukenhof Gardens which was a one-off experience of beautiful tulip displays in wonderful grounds. Finally a word about the journey from St Pancras and home again. This also was well organised, we were accompanied all through the journeys and through the station by Megs our guide, who kept an eye on us al the time and all went well. We also used The Baggageman facility which was offered free of charge - this was most useful and left us free to carry a small amount of luggage ourselves.

The whole holiday experience was easy and very enjoyable. It was easy to book and the colleague we spoke to was friendly and helpful. The journey from London St.Pancras was very pleasant but we were not very pleased with Chris Jones, the GRJ rep. He did not communicate well with any of us and seemed to ignore some of the other people in the group who needed extra assistance. However, when we arrived in Amsterdam and got onto the boat, things really looked up! The boat was lovely and all the staff on board were friendly, helpful and professional. The meals were exceptional and the Cruise Director Rob, was outstanding, ably assisted by Debs who was fantastic. We are sure she will be a great asset to the company as Cruise Director on the Rhine cruises. Every excursion was planned and executed immaculately. The only slight problem, in general, was that there weren’t enough over the head headphones to go round-there were so many people wearing hearing aids who couldn’t use the in ear headsets, would it be a good idea to provide enough over the ear headphones for every customer instead of the alternative in ear sets? The Quietvox was really good and made every outing a pleasure. We really enjoyed the whole holiday except for the return journey when Chris Jones again did not communicate with us at all. He went through on his own, through the Premium gate, leaving behind an elderly lady he was supposed to be escorting to the train and then when we eventually got onto the train, he was running through our carriage shouting to ask if anyone had seen the lady in question. The train set off and he still hadn’t located her. Luckily she had had the forethought to get on the train in a different carriage and then walked through the carriages to get to her seat. We were not impressed with him at all and were very pleased that he did not stay with us for the week. After experiencing excellent reps like, Jill in South Africa and Steve Kimber on the Imperial Cities tour we were so disappointed with Chris Jones.

The gardens were splendid, so full of colour and so beautifully arranged in the very many flower beds. It was very busy being a public holiday in the Netherlands but with such a huge area to explore, this did not distract from the splendour.
