Itinerary

Day 1 - London and Munich

Your journey to the Passion play starts with a flight from London to Munich. On arrival, transfer to your 4-Star hotel in the heart of the city, where dinner is included. This evening, you may like discover Munich's unique beer scene with visits to some of its historic beer halls. Sample different local blends, such as Weißbier, alongside traditional Bavarian snacks to the sound of an uplifting oompah band.

Day 2 - Munich and Oberammergau

With a free morning, walk through Munich's historic streets, admiring the city's charming main square, Marienplatz, home to the Neo-Gothic Town Hall and the famous Glockenspiel, which performs on the hour every hour. You may also like to see the Church of St Peter and Munich's oldest beer house, Höfbrauhaus. Afterwards, collect your luggage and transfer to the station for the train to Oberammergau via Murnau. From here, make your way to your 4-Star hotel, taking some time to settle in and stretch your legs ahead of dinner.

Day 3 - Oberammergau Passion Play

It's performance day, and time to head to Oberammergau's modern theatre to witness a unique re-telling of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A production enormous in scale, the play is a source of great pride for the villagers, the majority of whom are either part of the cast or crew. From live animals to a dazzling array of props, costumes and backdrops, the play is the oldest of its kind in the world and enjoys a fearsome reputation. First staged in 1634 as a plea to God to save them from the plague, the town vowed to repeat their performance every 10 years thereafter to give thanks for their salvation. Growing ever more ambitions each decade, Oberammergau's Passion Play is now the longest running religious play in the world and is split into two dramatic halves of three hours, with a break halfway through for you to sample a special Passion Play dinner.

Day 4 - Return to Munich

Catch the train back to Munich for a final night in your 4-Star hotel.
