Our walking tours are designed to offer a combination of relaxed sightseeing, enjoyable excursions, scenic mountain railways and interesting walks. The tours are carefully planned by our expert team and are escorted by a Tour Manager who travels with you for the duration of your holiday, whilst the walks themselves are lead by a knowledgeable local guide. Your local walking guide will have detailed knowledge of the area you are walking through, including its history, flora and fauna so they will really help you get the most out of your route.

On our walking tours, our guided walks are tailored to suit the general ability of the group, often with a choice of three different walks. For each guided walking day, the group is split into different ability groups for easy, medium and more difficult walks. Your local guide will help you establish which walks are most suitable for you: it could be a gentle stroll to Switzerland's beautiful Blausee or Arvesee, perhaps a more challenging hike up into the mountains around Kandersteg or a climb up to the dramatic Kanderfirn Glacier. Whatever your choice for your walking tour, from gentle strolls to more strenuous trekking through the mountains, you can be sure that you will be surrounded by the good company of your Great Rail Journeys group throughout.

We have long advocated the advantages of exploring a region by train but also believe that by foot is quite simply one of the best ways to discover the majestic mountains, crystal lakes and alpine meadows of Europe.
