Escorted Rail Tours to Portofino

A pastel-coloured coastal fishing village

The resort of Portofino is considered to be one of the most beautiful Mediterranean ports. The town has a stunning, picture-postcard harbour surrounded by pastel-painted houses. The town is really no more than a small fishing village, but thanks to its unique beauty, it has become a popular tourist destination. An excellent place to view the harbour is from the Castello Brown - a 16th Century fort (now principally a museum). Portofino's tiny main square overlooks the harbour and is an absolutely terrific spot to sit and watch the world go by.

Sent down to the briny depths in 1954 to commemorate inventor Dario Gonzatti, the pioneer of scuba diving, today it is a magnate for divers, tourists and locals alike, including Great Rail Journeys customers as they travel through the Italian Riviera.
