Our holiday begins in Guisborough, a market town with beautiful surrounding landscapes, including the distinctive Roseberry Topping hill. We're greeted by our Tour Manager at our hotel and after checking in, there's time to discover the town at leisure before dinner this evening. Along with its picturesque scenery, Guisborough also has an interesting historical heritage. You could seek out the ruins of its ancient priory near the vibrant high street where you'll find traditional shops, cosy cafes, and a warm community spirit.

Day 2 – The coastal charm of Whitby and the delightful North Yorkshire Moors Railway

We travel along the coast, pausing at Goathland, familiar to viewers of 'Heartbeat' as 'Aidensfield', before arriving in quaint Robin Hood's Bay. With its jumble of historic cottages nestled on the side of a cliff, this is one of the most scenic spots on the Yorkshire coast. We enjoy an insight into the village's smuggling history on a guided tour with the 'Whitby Storyteller', before continuing to Whitby. There's some time before lunch to explore the iconic seaside town at your own pace. From views of its dramatic clifftop abbey to its charming cobbled streets and sandy beach, Whitby is a delight to wander around.

For lunch, we visit an award-winning fish and chip restaurant and then you're at leisure to discover more of the town before our coach takes us to the village of Grosmont, where we join the scenic North Yorkshire Moors Railway. With its steam engines and beautifully restored carriages, this heritage railway curves through stunning countryside, ancient woodlands, and heather-covered moors as we take in the stunning natural beauty of Yorkshire. We leave the train in Pickering and drive back to our hotel in time for dinner.

Trains are steam-hauled where possible, however due to timetable changes or weather conditions, heritage diesel locomotives may be running instead.

Day 3 – Elegant Castle Howard and a taste of Yorkshire in popular Malton

After breakfast this morning, our coach takes us to Castle Howard, one of the country's grandest stately homes. Set in the Howardian Hills 'Area of Natural Beauty', the house is breathtaking, with a symmetrical Baroque design crowned by a central dome. We have exclusive access to the house, enjoying a private tour before it opens to the public. We visit the Walled Garden - a paradise with fragrant roses and an ornamental vegetable patch - the intricate Atlas Fountain and Temple of the Four Winds.

Once we've explored the house and gardens, we continue to the market town of Malton. Known as 'the food capital of Yorkshire', the charming town proudly showcases the region's finest culinary offerings. We experience this with a Yorkshire Pudding masterclass, learning the secrets to this iconic Yorkshire staple, followed by a walking tour through the town's gastropubs and independent eateries, stopping along the way for tastings.

After the tour, there's time at leisure to discover the streets at your own pace. You could take the chance to buy some of the wonderful local produce we tried during our tour or sample more of the town's delights. Our coach takes us back to our hotel later this afternoon, with some time to relax before dinner.

The rearrangement of the itinerary was not ideal. It would have been much better to go to Malton on the last day, as planned. This would have enabled us to buy fresh produce.

Lovely hotel. Lots of interesting visits. Castle Howard was brilliant. The visit to the creamery making cheese was interesting as was the visit to Malton with its artisan food shops and distillery. With two rail trips a good holiday ??
