Wensleydale Railway

The Wensleydale Railway is an old passenger line that ended its services in 1954 and was forced to haul limestone and then military vehicles to stay functioning. It reopened as a passenger line again in 2003. The railway now has its own station, a testament to its recent revival. The railway is now largely run by volunteers with a small number of paid staff.

“Gisborough Hall was a good hotel, good room and in a quiet location. enjoyed the steam train ride from Grosmont to Pickering and the shorter ride on the Wensleydale Railway. For a "Great Rail Journey" there could have been more train rides, for example a journey from Middlesborough to Whitby, which I understand is quite a scenic route.

“Good value, very comfortable hotel with helpful staff. The trips were varied & much enjoyed. One member of the group was repeating the same trip having done it the year before. Our leader was very attentive and we formed into a friendly cohesive group.
