Exploring Guernsey and Herm

We take a half-day familiarisation tour of Guernsey. This pretty island originally belonged to France, but was put in control of the Normans, who then took over England, thus the island changed hands. One of the most famous sights of Guernsey is Castle Cornet, which was once a tidal island before its natural bridge was cut off from the mainland.

The castle has been used as an important fortification and was also a Royalist stronghold in the Civil War, despite Guernsey itself supporting Parliament. On Day 4, we journey over to Herm, a tiny island to the east of Guernsey. Herm is filled with amazing sandy coves and is a truly wonderful place to spend the day.

Here, you learn about Jersey under the Nazi's, and the brave resistance of the Jersey nationals.
