Danube River Cruises

The Danube is a truly magnificent river, its banks filled with a rich heritage and culture. Historically used as a trade route, the Danube is now one of the world's most iconic waterways. Beginning its journey in the mountainous region of Germany's Black Forest, it meanders through the heart of Europe for 1,777 miles, via a number of European countries, before finally reaching the Black Sea.

Each bend of the Danube boasts new surprises, with its shores home to grand historic capital cities, such as Vienna and Budapest, as well as idyllic towns and villages like Melk and Krems. There are incredible sights to be seen from the comfort of your ship too. The Wachau Valley is one of Austria's most appealing attractions, thanks to its dramatic scenery of hilltop fortresses and surprising history. Nearby Dürnstein Castle was once used to imprison Richard the Lionheart. Sailing the Danube Bend is another memorable experience. A sprawling canvas of forested peaks and fanciful riverside towns, it's here that some of the oldest European settlements began and even Hungary's answer to Camelot, Visegrád, is visible if you know where to look.

Highlights of the River Danube

Beginning its life in the mountainous region of Germany's Black Forest, the Danube curves its way through majestic cities Bratislava, Vienna, and Nuremberg before reaching the Black Sea. Originally used as a trade route for many centuries, the river is now one of the most iconic waterways in the world.

There is plenty of variety along its banks as it makes its way through each city; from the Imperial cities and their grand architecture, to the forested peaks and quaint riverside towns. The Danube is also famous for its scattering of fairy-tale castles, including Schloss Schönbühel and Burgruine Dürnstein, with their romantic backdrops of mountains and mysterious forests.
