Destinations in Europe

Explore Europe's Railways and Waterways

From the exotic wonders of Istanbul to the striking glaciers of Arctic Norway, Great Rail Journeys' holidays in Europe offer unique and diverse experiences in some of the world's most stunning locations.

On a single tour, you can experience the contrasting cultures of the continent and admire natural wonders such as the renowned fjords of Scandinavia or the remarkable terrain of the Swiss Alps.

We have a wide range of escorted tours on offer, including comprehensive multi-centre visits, short breaks, and rail cruises.

More information on what is included on each of our European rail holidays can be found in the individual tour descriptions. To view a listing of holidays around Europe by rail, select a destination from the map above.

What's Included?

Transport and accommodation are included in the price of our escorted tours to Europe, as well as a selection of excursions and meals, as detailed in the individual holiday itinerary.

Our hotels are ideally suited for the attractions of the local area, and offer excellent service all year round. We often choose family-run hotels, as they offer a friendly, personal experience.

All our tours include the services of a professional Tour Manager, who will escort you throughout your journey to answer any questions you may have about the destinations on the tour or any other aspect of your holiday. Local guides are often available to share their knowledge of the local area - perhaps with a few insider secrets about the best places to eat, drink and shop when you have free days!

The cornerstone of Great Rail Journeys' tour packages are the excursions; these range from guided city tours, concerts, wine tasting, reindeer sleigh rides, and river cruises. Each excursion is designed to give a true representation of a region's culture and heritage, while being as fun and informative as possible.

Our most popular excursions are heritage rail journeys. The narrow-gauge railways of Switzerland cross viaducts, loop into lush valleys, and twist around the snow-capped peaks of the Alps; in the UK, famous routes such as the North York Moors Railway evoke the golden era of rail travel.

When you book a train journey to Europe with Great Rail journeys, you can look forward to a once in a lifetime break safe in the knowledge that your money and your holiday is safe. As the UK's market leader of escorted rail tours, we are members of ATOL, AITO, and ABTA and all flights are protected by the CAA, where applicable.

"From beginning to end, this was a wonderful adventure. The scenery was spectacular. Another triumph for Great Rail Journeys!"- Mrs Jury, La Robla & Undiscovered Northern Spain
