What’s included

Day 1 - To Roses

Meet your group and Tour Manager at our dedicated departure office at London St Pancras today before boarding the Eurostar service to Paris where we change trains taking us down through France and across the border to Spain. We stop in Figueres from where we transfer to our hotel in Roses, and enjoy dinner.

Day 2 - Girona

Our excursion today takes us to Girona where we enjoy an introductory guided tour followed by time at leisure. A well-preserved example of a Spanish medieval town, Girona's bustling streets are home to a treasure trove of winding alleys, colorful buildings and fascinating and diverse galleries and museums. It's ownership has changed multiple times across the centuries, with each civilisation lending its own personal touch to the city's skyline. The cathedral is an excellent example of this, used as a mosque by Moorish rulers before being re-purposed as a Christian church.

  • Breakfast, Dinner
Pont de Pedra, Girona
Days 3-4 - The Little Yellow Train of the Pyrenees

This morning, our coach takes us to nearby Thuir in the French Pyrenees, from where we head to Villefranche. From here, we board the charming Yellow Train for a round trip. With carriages, all painted in a jolly yellow color, this train provides its passengers with wonderful views of the Pyrenees mountains as it winds its way through magnificent scenery.

Your following day is at leisure. You may wish to spend the day in nearby Barcelona. One of Spain's finest cities, Barcelona is enigmatic, fascinating and truly beautiful.

On some departures, the Yellow Train may not operate due to engineering works. On these departures, you enjoy an excursion on the captivating Montserrat Railroad, which climbs to the breathtaking clifftop monastery of Montserrat.

  • Day 3 - Breakfast, Dinner
  • Day 4 - Breakfast, Dinner

Days 5-6 - The Núria Valley Rack Railroad

We take a journey on the excellent Núria Valley Rack Railroad. One of the only ways to access the valley, this rack railroad showcases this part of the world at its rugged best as it climbs 7 miles from Ribes de Freser. The Núria Valley is a tranquil oasis populated only by hikers visiting the religious sanctuary here, and the occasional sailing boat drifting across the reservoir. Day 6 is at leisure.

Food in hotel was mediocre in our view, advertised trip on the yellow train was cancelled which we were looking forward too,but substitute day was fine except the guided tour of Perpignan which was a bit long winded.

Excellent vacation. Only reason for rating as 4 star was the hotel. It was situated 2 miles outside Roses with no transport in October (other than that arranged by tour manager). The meal provision was adequate but repetitive - a Spanish evening would have been good, after all we were in Spain! Finally, for anyone not good at walking, it was virtually impossible to leave the hotel - steps, rough paths, roads with no pavements.
