Meet the Journey Magazine team!

1 May 2018

Who are we?

Each edition we want to introduce you to a department within the company so you can get a behind the scenes peek at just how we create and operate such original and unique holiday itineraries. This week we thought you might like to get to know the copywriting team a little bit better. It's our responsibility to make sure that everything from the brochures you get through the post and the letters you receive about your upcoming holiday, to the adverts you might come across in your weekend newspaper and the posts you read on our social media sites are accurate and interesting. We love conversations, especially when customers get in touch to share their experiences, and have been working over the past couple of years to grow a dialogue between us, the travel experts and you, the travellers!

Sukie Chapman - Content Manager

There are three things that I always carry with me, a pen, a writing pad and a book - I believe this says a lot about my personality, as well as my terrible posture!

Discovering that writing was a pleasure and not a chore led me to a creative career change from actor to word-smith, and for the last four years I have been working in the copy department of Great Rail Journeys and Rail Discoveries where I started as a content assistant after completing my Master's degree. My most memorable travel moments have to be eating crickets in Vietnam and snorkelling with sea turtles in the British Virgin Islands.

Lorna Heatley - Content Executive

Lorna - Headshot

I'm Lorna and I've been working at Great Rail Journeys for 18 months now as a copywriter. For the past 6 months, I've been in charge of social media, so if you've messaged the company on Facebook or Twitter, the chances are you've been talking to me!

Thanks to numerous family holidays in and around the British Isles, I hold the accolade of being the copywriter who's racked up the most train journeys with my favourite being the Strathspey Steam Railway in Scotland. I have also travelled to America, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as around much of Europe, but my dream destination has to be Japan in the spring.

Jack Stacey – Creative Copywriter

Jack - Headshot

I'm Jack and I've been working at Great Rail Journeys for a year and a half as a copywriter, specialising in all things German, Austrian, Swiss, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and cruise. I have travelled to destinations across the world, visiting the USA, Northern Africa and vast swathes of Europe.

I even spent a year studying and working in Granada, Southern Spain. As I was raised in Wales, my favourite rail journey would have to be the Ffestiniog Railway between Portmeirion and Blaenau Ffestiniog. Aside from travel and writing, my interests include pontificating, drinking glühwein and overusing the word 'magnificent'.

Katie Shaw – Creative Copywriter

Katie - Headshot

Hi, my name is Katie and I work as a creative copywriter at Great Rail Journeys. I spend my days creating content for Great Rail Journeys and Rail Discoveries, from writing up itineraries for our brochures, to travel and destination pieces for our blogs and websites.

Personally, my favourite travel destination is Greece, particularly the Greek islands; I adore the hidden sandy coves, the traditional cuisine and the slow-paced, relaxed way of life. Outside of work, I love musical theatre, exploring the Yorkshire countryside with my dog, Hugo, and buying more way books than I possibly have time to read.
