Pinzgaubahn Railway

Enjoy a journey on the excellent narrow-gauge Pinzgaubahn. Travelling between Zell am See and Mittersill, this line has been running continuously for nearly 120 years. Trains still run regularly along the foothills of the beautiful Pinzgau Mountains, from which the line takes its name. More recently, a summer steam service has been introduced, allowing passengers to enjoy the nostalgia of the 'Golden Age' of steam, as they travel across barn-dotted meadows and the calm beauty of the Austrian countryside.

“The company was good. the journeys were interesting, if sometimes quite long, when we had rail replacement bus, or the carriage where you could barely move from your seat. the tour guide Martin was always pleasant and helpful and gave us just as much information as we needed at each stage. The timings were very good, an the itinerary was followed very closely. Although i went on this trip primarly for the Passion Play, I really enjoyed the day in the Austrian Alps, with a good local guide, and excellent coach driver! and unexpected snow!! It was a huge positive that we had meals at the hotel every evening, as this can be particularly difficult for a single traveller. My main reservation was the hotel the first night which was adequate for the accommodation and breakfast, but was below expectation with the bar and the dinner. The vegetarian option being particularly poor. I would recommend Great Rail and would consider booking again. Thank you.
