Ouche Valley Railway

Our experience on the Ouche Valley Railway allows us to admire the charming rural scenery on offer in Burgundy from a heritage train, often hauled by a steam engine. The line is steeped in history, as it was one of the first to be constructed in France.

The journey on the preserved railway begins at the restored station in Bligny-sur-Ouche, and from here we set off on a five-mile line that follows the course of the Ouche River. The train takes us past some delightful landscapes, including the gently rolling hillsides that slope down towards the idyllic farmland closer to the tracks. Of course, the narrow-gauge railway also offers a clear view of the tranquil river at all times.

As we travel further north, the Ouche Valley Railway (and river) passes through an attractive limestone gorge, making a popular spot for photographers, particularly when steam engines are working on the line. After an enjoyable journey, the train arrives in the town of Pont d'Ouche, the railway's current terminus. Here passengers can watch the locomotive run around its train before making the return journey.
