Manx Electric Railway

The Manx Electric Railway is recognised as the longest narrow-gauge vintage railway in the British Isles at 17 miles (27.4km) long. The railway runs from the Isle of Man's capital, Douglas, to Ramsey and includes a stop in Laxey for connections with the Snaefell Mountain Railway. The railway take its passengers through beautiful countryside, across gorse-topped hills and along the stunning east coast in original rolling stock - widely acclaimed to be the oldest working tramcars in the world.

“Despite the problems with the ferry crossings both going and returning to Heysham, I felt the holiday was a success and the tour manager should be highly commended for the way she dealt with all the problems. The Great Rail Journeys Head Office should also be congratulated for so swiftly arranging accommodation due to cancelled ferries and paying for an extra evening meal both the Lancaster Hotel on the way out and at the Isle of Man hotel before our return on the evening ferry. The holiday programme itself on the Island lived up to expectation and I thoroughly enjoyed all the experiences and the hotel where we stayed was excellent with the staff being very friendly and helpful.
