The Maeklong Railway is a 67 kilometres long 3 ft 3 3⁄8 railway that runs between Wongwian Yai and Bangkok, made famous by the way it traverses the busy Maeklong Railway Market. Market stall owners pull back their awnings as the train approaches and tourists flock to get a picture of the train as it passes; some of the local farmers' produce is almost run over as the train rumbles through the bustling market. The railway has been operating since 1904 and is perhaps one of the most iconic railways in Thailand.
