Frecciargento

With a smart and futuristic appearance, and sleek interiors, the Frecciargento can zip you across the magnificent colours and landscapes of Italy in a matter of hours. In English, it's title means Silver Arrow and this fine locomotive can travel up to speeds of around 160 mph on certain routes.

Originally known as the Italian Eurostar, the Frecciargento forms up part of Le Frecce, a series of high speed trains operating up and down the country. These trains are operated by the Ternitalia company, and were originally introduced in 1997 as the Eurostar. By 2012, the Italian Eurostar trains were changed into different categories, with Frecciarossa being the fastest and Frecciargento being the second fastest. Each Frecciargento train offers First and Standard Class along with a restaurant for comfortable dining.

“I enjoyed the holiday and the company of the group. we had some problems with the train travel beyond the control of grj but our tour manager, Marta, ironed them out. the tours were good, especially visit to Lucca. the hotel was good and the hotel in Nice, on the way back was exceptional.

“Great location by the Lake and the hotel was the best I've stayed in with GRJ. The tour manager Gilly did an excellent job and the size of the group being only 23 people was perfect. There is a good balance with this tour between free time and excursion days. The free time allowed you to explore the town, take a ferry trip or just relax by the lovely pool. The excursion to Venice was enhanced by the gondola ride but the guided tour was too long. I really enjoyed the excursion to Malcesine at the more northern end of Lake Garda. Overall a very good holiday.

“Overall the trip was excellent with superb Tour Manager, Paul. The only disappointment was the food in the hotels, particularly in Sorrento. While accepting that meals had to be within budget, the quality and choice was poor, particularly when compared to other guests who were not part of our group. The situation was even worse for my wife who is vegan. I was assured beforehand that all hotels and Eurostar were informed of this but only Eurostar catered for her. I did not particularly like the fact that the group had to dine at 7pm rather than at a time of our individual choosing. I would have preferred to only have breakfast included and make our own arrangements for our evening meal.
