Cisalpino

Cisalpino is a service run jointly by Italian and Swiss railways, connecting the two countries through the Alpine passes. The trains themselves are either traditional EuroCity trains or Pendolino tilting trains. The EuroCity trains generally operate on the routes between Basel, Zurich and Milan via the Gotthard Pass and between Geneva and Milan via the Simplon Pass. Some - but not all - of these trains have a dining car. The Pendolino trains are similar to those which run as Eurostar Italia within Italy. They are theoretically capable of high speeds, but rarely get the chance, thanks to their routes through the mountains; however, the tilting technology enables them to take curves more quickly than a conventional train. The Pendolino trains connect Milan, Trieste and Florence with northern Switzerland and they generally have an on-board dining car.
