October Holiday Ideas
With October comes Halloween, so what better place to visit this month than Whitby, a place which inspired one of the most iconic Gothic novels of all time, Dracula? Bram Stoker was a regular visitor to the town, and it was during a visit in the late 1800's that he was inspired to pen his iconic vampire horror novel. Take a stroll around the atmospheric ancient streets that inspired him, crowned by the haunting ruins of a 7th-century clifftop abbey, on our remarkable rail tour of Yorkshire. Or, if you're seeking some mid-Autumn sun, embark on an extraordinary adventure with a visit to magnificent Australia.
Yorkshire & Northumberland
Scenic rail journeys bring to life the history and wild, natural
beauty of Yorkshire and Northumbria on this wonderful eight day
tour. Travel on the nostalgic North Yorkshire Moors Railway to
Whitby, where you can while away the time exploring the town's
fascinating Gothic connections. Climb the 199 steps to explore the
brooding clifftop abbey, wander around the historic cobbled
streets, and perhaps celebrate the month of Halloween with a
dramatic ghost walk. On this excellent tour of Yorkshire, we also
follow in Viking and Roman footsteps, visiting historic York,
Chester's Roman Fort, Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne and the glorious
Alnwick Gardens.
Australia & the Ghan
This fantastic rail adventure takes in many of Australia's natural
wonders, including the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru and the Blue
Mountains. A wonderful train journey on the legendary Ghan from
Alice Springs to Adelaide is a real highlight, and time in
Melbourne and Sydney to explore completes this holiday of a
lifetime. October falls within Australia's springtime, so expect
warm weather, bright skies and glorious spring flowers in
bloom.
