Vulkan Express

From Brohl to Engeln runs the Vulkan Express. Although named the 'express', this slow moving train actually takes one and a half hours to travel 11 miles, giving passengers plenty of time to relax and take in the beautiful scenery around them, such as the Laacher See, a lake formed by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago. The line that we travel on was opened in January 1902, and survived the Second World War, only to have to briefly close in 1945. The line re-opened in 1953, and continues to run regularly today as a tourist line.
