A favourite of our customers, this magnificent hotel was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway. When it officially opened in 1929, it was the tallest building in the British Commonwealth.

  • Days 2-3 - Guided sightseeing tour of Toronto

    Ontario parliament

This morning we take a guided sightseeing tour of this wonderful city. Your afternoon is free to explore Toronto at leisure, so why not take one of the helicopter tours of the city? You may even take a ride up the world famous CN Tower (payable locally). Alternatively take in Chinatown or Kensington Market, browse the shops in the grand covered malls or visit the excellent Art Gallery of Ontario, with its wonderful collection of work by Canadian artists. On Day 3 you are free to explore Toronto at leisure. Take a stroll along College and Queen streets for trendy shops and quaint cafés, or visit one of the city's parks. Discover areas such as Little India, Little Italy and Greektown.

  • Day 4 - Niagara Falls and The Canadian

    Niagara Falls

Today begins with an excursion to Niagara Falls, a highlight of any holiday to Canada. We enjoy lunch in the Falls View Restaurant of the Sheraton Hotel whilst admiring the excellent views over the Falls. Niagara Falls are all the more dramatic in winter, when the water freezes into giant icicles. We board The Canadian this evening for our unforgettable journey travelling in Sleeper Plus Class across the Western plains and through the majestic Rockies to Vancouver. You have time to explore the train, including its Park Car, observation dome, lounge and bar.

  • Day 5 - Crossing the Canadian Shield

    The Canadian

Christmas Eve is spent on board The Canadian as we cross the Canadian Shield - a wild land of frozen lakes, snow-covered trees and isolated communities. Sleeper Plus Class guests enjoy use of the art-deco style Dome car, its lounges and observation area. Here, you can relax with fellow travellers whilst taking in the passing scenery. During our journey, staff on board keep a watchful eye on the passing scenery, pointing out wildlife and points of interest.

    Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Day 6 - Christmas Day in Winnipeg

    Winnipeg

Today we continue our journey west on The Canadian, arriving in Winnipeg in the morning, where there is some time for a festive stroll around this railway city, known as the 'Gateway to the West'. Union Station was built in 1911 by the same architects as the famous Grand Central Station. We continue westwards from Winnipeg, and enjoy Christmas dinner tonight on board The Canadian as we cross the prairies. We arrive in the province of Saskatchewan this evening.

    Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Day 7 - Travelling through the Rockies

    The Rockies

Our journey continues today, travelling from Edmonton to Jasper, through some wonderful Rocky Mountain scenery. Relax and enjoy the view as we pass glaciers, lakes, plunging canyons, frozen waterfalls and snowcovered peaks. The Rockies are not just a line of mountains, but the edge of the Western Cordillera, a complex array of plateaus and folded rock layers that stretch to the Pacific Coast. We make a short stop in Jasper, a quaint mountain town at the edge of the wilderness in the heart of the Rockies. The town is surrounded by tree-covered mountains, blanketed in snow to create a fabulous winter setting. As you wander through the streets, past pretty houses and small shops, it wouldn't be unusual to see a family of elk crossing the road.

    Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Day 8 - Vancouver and Grouse Mountain

    Vancouver

On arrival in Vancouver, we leave The Canadian, travelling by coach through the city. Our route takes us through Stanley Park, which is larger than New York's Central Park and most famous for its large collection of totem poles. We continue over Lions Gate Bridge to North Vancouver to reach Grouse Mountain for a journey on the Skyride (North America's largest aerial tram system), which climbs to 3,700 feet over its one-mile course to the Alpine Station. The views along the way are truly stunning as the city of Vancouver, the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding mountains slowly unfold during the ascent. Once at the summit we settle down in sleighs for a ride through the snowy forests. We return to the city and the elegant Sutton Place Hotel, located in the heart of the city. The rest of your day is free for you to explore at your leisure.

    Breakfast

Afterwards you may visit the city's excellent museums, art galleries and shops, some beautiful parks, the famous waterfront and bustling port. We dine together in the 'Top of Vancouver' revolving restaurant, which enjoys fabulous views over the city.
