Providing visibility is good, passengers not only enjoy spectacular views from Jungfraujoch, but also throughout the journey itself.
The Jungfraujoch is the highest railroad station in Europe and one of the highest in the world. Running up the side of the mighty Jungfrau mountain at the heart of the Bernese Oberland, the Jungfraujoch is both a marvellous feat of mountain engineering, as well a panoramic journey through the peaks, revealing some magnificent views. Trundling over gigantic glaciers, through burrowing tunnels and across ice cold, glimmering lakes, the Jungfrau Railroad is a masterclass of structural design, navigating its way to places no other form of transport can. The views are nothing short of staggering, with the azure blue of a crisp Swiss sky combining with either the sharp white of freshly lain snow, or the lush green of the summer hills.
Arriving at the station of the Jungfraujoch, you are greeted by sumptuous views across the eternally snowy Aletsch Glacier, one of the largest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site. On the other side is the Top of Europe building which gazes over the mountainscape, and provides several restaurants and a permanent exhibition discussing the history of the mountain and the rail line. A little further up the mountain is the Sphinx Observatory, an astronomical center with a view platform which peers over the tops of the Jungfrau, the Mönch and the Eiger mountains.
For customers starting in Meiringen, our journey begins as we travel along the valley to picturesque Lake Brienz, before closely following the lake's northern shore through the village of Brienz to Interlaken.
