Your New England vacation begins when you arrive in Boston and transfer independently to our central hotel, located a short walk from Boston Common. The city was founded in the early 17th century by English Puritans and played a key role in American independence. Today, Boston is the cultural and financial center of New England.
After some time to explore the local area, return to the hotel for a welcome meeting with the Tour Manager and your fellow travelers. The remainder of the evening is yours to enjoy Bean Town's impressive culinary scene. Overnight Boston, MA.

Your journey north on the Vermonter begins in DC and runs through New York City to Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. Vermont is renowned for the longest ski season in the East. Its world-famous ski resorts include Killington, Mount Snow, Smugglers' Notch, Stowe, Sugarbush and Stratton. Experience the Green Mountain State's scenic vistas and New England charm any time of the year. If you're a native Vermonter, treat yourself to a trip southward to one of the great cities of the eastern United States. New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC, are all stops on the Vermonter's daily journey south.

Holding designations as both the world's first mountain-climbing cog railway and one of the steepest rack railways in the world, the Mt. Washington Cog Railway is in a class of its own. This spectacular rail line has continued to impress guests with its beautiful views and inventive course since its opening in 1869. Steam engines made the journey exclusively until 2008, when biodiesel engines were introduced. Now, guests may choose from either for the hour-long trip to the summit. And the views from the top - they are just as impressive as the rack railway itself.
Enhance your trip
Many of our guests choose to spend additional nights before or after their trip. Great Rail Journeys would be happy to make hotel arrangements for you.

Our tour guide was great! Also the trip was well thought out and well-organized. My only suggestion; please have people wear name tags. Please, please.

Big thank you to our motorcoach driver, Larry. He was very friendly, talkative, helpful and safe driving. We had a great tour manager, Linda ika "Fun Size". She was extremely organized, informative, friendly and always had our best interest/enjoyment at heart. We were provided a detailed itinerary for the entire vacation. Then she provided additional handout and maps to show possible places to eat around each hotel. And she later texted us each evening of the next day's activities and schedule. Very helpful. Never a dull moment with her! Boston tour was great. Really enjoyed touring the apple cider factory and the Goodrich Maple syrup tour. Amtrak train ride was fun and so was the harbor cruise. Mother nature cooperated with lots of fall colors in most areas. The colors in Vermont were outstanding. Highly recommend this vacation package. Hope you get our tour team as they went above and beyond exceptions. Jane & Rich

This sights and scenery on this tour were amazing. Our hotel stays and meals were very good. There was a lot crammed into just 4 days. The schedule could have been a little more relaxed. A wonderful bus driver and luxury bus as well as an experienced tour guide.
