The company that began with five British Rail workers taking
friends on an Egyptian adventure has grown into an operator taking
more than 20,000 customers on tour for the first time. Fifty Tour
Managers lead customers on adventures all across the world. In
September 2005, the Amber Travel Partnership is bought by
independent private equity firm Primary Capital.
Great Rail Journeys launches a new subsidiary programme in 2006.
The aim of RailSelect.com is to provide rail holidays for the
independent traveller rather than escorted group travel that had
previously formed the main part of GRJ's product.
Treyn Holidays is launched in 2008. This new brand offers
affordable escorted group holidays to the most beautiful parts of
Europe. Inntravel is sold to Inghams in February, while GRJ
launches a dedicated product for solo travellers in October.
November sees us scoop the Grand Prix at the annual York Press
Business Awards, as well as Growth Business of the Year. Yet more
rail-based holidays are introduced in 2009, including festive tours
and UK-based holidays that showcase some of the British Isles'
finest scenery.
