On Christmas Eve, we travel through the Lötschberg tunnel and over the Kasnder Viaduct to Brig. Here, we board the Glacier Express - known as the 'slowest express train in the world' - from the Valais region to the rocky landscapes of the Graubünden canton. We ascend gently up through the Rhône Valley and through the Furka Base Tunnel, climbing past small villages lining our route. We climb steadily then steeply as we make our way up and over the snowy Oberalp Pass, the highest point of our route at 6,670ft. Finally, we descend into the Rhine Valley and reach Chur, where we spend three nights.
