The Severn Valley Railroad and Warwick Castle

We head to Kidderminster by coach to board one of the vintage steam-hauled trains of the Severn Valley Railroad. Traveling in restored carriages, we make our way through the countryside of Worcestershire and Shropshire on a round trip to Arley. Later we continue to medieval Warwick Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1068. Here you have time to explore the castle's many exhibits, as well as the gardens and ramparts which offer beautiful views over the wintry landscape.

Christmas Eve in Stratford

This morning we embark on a guided tour of Stratford-upon-Avon, the hometown of William Shakespeare. We take in some of the town's most important sites including Shakespeare's birthplace, Harvard house, and Holy Trinity Church - the bard's final resting place - before an afternoon at leisure. You may like to visit Stratford's butterfly farm, a tropical enclosure that lets you experience these delicate creatures close up. Later this afternoon you will have afternoon tea. Later you could attend Midnight Mass; sherry and mince pies are available on your return.

Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railroad

Our Boxing Day excursion takes us to Toddington, where we join the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railroad for a steam-hauled journey through the Cotswolds. On our return you could go to see Anne Hathaway's cottage on the outskirts of town which dates back to the 15th century. Mary Arden's house, owned by Shakespeare's grandparents, is also well worth a look. Tonight, we enjoy an early dinner ahead of one of the highlights of our tour, an evening at the Royal Shakespeare Theater.
