Usher in the spring season on this colourful flower-filled tour. From our beautiful woodland base in St Austell, we visit the Cornwall Flower Show, see the famous Eden Project and Heligan, and explore the Cornish countryside by heritage train.
Your tour begins in St Austell, as you meet your Tour Manager at the Cornwall Hotel Spa & Estate, your base for four nights. After settling in, you are free to perhaps take one of the walking trails through the woodland estate, or unwind in the spa (payable locally), ahead of dinner this evening.
Today we travel to the Royal Cornwall Showground near Wadebridge. At this time of year, the showgrounds host the Cornwall Flower Show. Organised by the Cornwall Garden Society, the event showcases the very best of Britain's colourful floral beauty in springtime; daffodils and other plant bulbs abound, as do magnolias and ornamental shrubs. The diverse exhibits range from show gardens to floral art, utilising an array of different plants. Many respected experts and professionals are on hand to give talks and advice on how to create your ideal garden, and a number of trade stands ensure you can pick up those handy horticultural aids. You can explore the exhibits at your own pace.
This morning we visit the former Tremayne Estate, home to the extraordinary Lost Gardens of Heligan. The gardens were neglected in the aftermath of the First World War, but captured the public's imagination when they were lovingly restored to their former glory in the 1990s.
You are free to explore the site at your leisure. Strewn as they are with unusual features, exotic flora and unique and incredible arrangements, the Lost Gardens truly exude a magical and almost otherworldly ambience. We continue to Bodmin, where we join the famous Bodmin & Wenford Steam Railway, for a nostalgic and scenic return journey in a heritage train.
We visit the world-famous Eden Project today. Situated in an old china clay pit, this iconic landmark is a celebration of environmental conservation. Its famous plastic domes are the largest greenhouses in the world, and contain thousands of exotic flora and fauna from across the planet. After, we continue by coach to the pretty village of Mevagissey.
Today, the tour concludes, and you are free to make your journey home.
Please note that while every departure of this tour features the same excursions, they may not necessarily be in the order listed above.
We recommend that for this tour you arrange flights to and from Newquay Airport, which is approximately 17 miles from your base in St Austell.
